2014 Transfers: Where are they now

Maybe but with no more waivers it will cut some out I would think.

So ridiculous that the NCAA is getting rid of waivers.

At this point, the schools need to ask themselves what good the NCAA is doing them.

So the only people transferring that can play immediately the the kids that graduate early?

Interesting.

Transfers in general have gotten way the phuck out of hand! Just because someone thinks they should be playing more minutes than they are is not a good enough reason to transfer. Read the article on the Custer kid. He averaged 1.1 pts/game and about 5 mins/game. Hey Clayton, you're a frickin freshman!!!! Pay your dues and actually work on your game...and guess what...your time will come. Instead, it's much easier to run away and look for a roster that has automatic playing time in it w/o having to earn it. It's ridiculous.

On one hand, I agree. I think it would improve the overall quality of college basketball if more players were willing to stick around, pay their dues, and learn a system.

On the other hand, I can't judge every instance of a transfer without more facts. Maybe this kid is transferring for a host of "normal" reasons outside of athletics (academics, homesick, the chicks in Ames spend too much time at the feeding trough, etc.) Perhaps it was a mutually beneficial decision between the player and Hoiberg. I know lots of D1 athletes get told that their best option may be to transfer. It frees up a scholarship for the program and allows the player an opportunity to start anew. In those circumstances, I don't fault a kid for wanting to move on. But if it's truly running away from competition to find easier "minutes", then yeah, I agree.

2015 is getting off to a fast start ...

UMass guard Derrick Gordon, the first openly gay player in NCAA Division I men's basketball, told ESPN he has decided to transfer to another school for his final season in college. The 6-foot-2 guard, who began his career at Western Kentucky, averaged 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game this past season for the Minutemen.

Providence forward Tyler Harris will graduate at the end of the semester and transfer elsewhere for his final season of eligibility, the school announced Tuesday. Harris, who transferred to Providence from NC State in 2012, will be eligible immediately at his next destination.

Indiana sophomore guard Stanford Robinson will transfer to another school in hopes of finding more playing time. Coach Tom Crean made the announcement Wednesday, less than a week after the Hoosiers' season ended with a loss to Wichita State in their NCAA tournament opener. The 6-foot-4 Robinson says he also wants to play closer to his Maryland home. In two seasons with the Hoosiers, Robinson averaged 4.7 points. He played 11.4 minutes per game this past season after averaging 16.9 minutes as a freshman. Robinson also was suspended for the first four games, including two exhibition games, after failing an offseason drug test.

University of Tulsa basketball coach Frank Haith says sophomore guard Stevie Repichowski is transferring. Haith said Repichowski is leaving in search of an opportunity for more playing time. Repichowski averaged 4.5 minutes in 22 games for TU this past season. He scored a total of 20 points and had eight rebounds.

I'm not sure what we would want in a transfer. We have 3-4 returning starters. A backup point guard would be nice for next year, but they would be looking for starter minutes if they're transferring just for 1 year (e.g. UMass PG). We have Pritchard coming in the following year, and it's his job to backup Jordan for his senior year and take over for the next 3 years. The window is only open next year.
  • The Providence forward's production fell off late in the season, but he averaged almost 10 ppg and 4 boards. Norman is a long way from Rhode Island.
  • If the kid can't get playing time at Tulsa, he won't get it at OU.
  • We need another TaShawn Thomas who is graduating, so he could be immediately eligible. The trouble is we have so many kids with potential waiting in the wings, I would want to give them the first chance.

As long as everyone returns I'm satisfied with seeing what happens with the kids we will have next year.
