2025 - 2026 Coaching Carousel

OU fan base has also witnessed success. Nebraska fans have never witnessed them win a tournament game.

Just a totally different set of expectations between the two.
Its like building Indiana football. If their coach had won 7 games in the year, they would have been thrilled and extended him.

neither has any xp winning, like at all.. Kevin Wilson took them to back to back bowl games (before they fired him for being too mean lol) and that was like unheard of

That was my point. Would we have had enough patience with him after 4 seasons on those results? A lot of the historical b-ball success we’ve had vs. Nebraska isn’t as crucial these days with NIL. Decent rosters can be assembled by teams like Nebraska, that 20 years ago…would have been hard to come by in Lincoln. Back in the day, the OU job would have been considered much better than the Neb job. That gap has shrank considerably. Before Hoiberg took over Nebraska, the program had won 19 & 22 games in the previous two seasons. In Hoiberg’s early seasons…the Big 10 wasn’t near as good as the SEC was last year or the last couple of seasons in the Big 12, when OU was still in that league.

I think Hoiberg has done a great job this year especially, with a team that isn’t very athletic, but plays very well as a team.

Hurley at Arizona state has always felt like a square peg in a round hole. Just odd. East coast palooka in the desert.

hoiberg would be great at KU
I hope they stick with JV
I like hoiberg and would welcome him to OU but KU thinks their **** doesn’t stink and would look to nba coaches or successful higher profile college coaches with KU ties. That thinking has toppled many great programs so I hope they stick with it.

I think the more arrogant move is to stick with jacque Vaughn who has no HC resume. I would rather do the route you posted about if I were a disgusting KU fan..

he was a head coach in the NBA for 6 years

Orlando Magic for 3 years
Nets for 3
I looked into it. He was a HC for PARTS of 6 seasons. Looks like he only was a HC for 2 full seasons for the Magic.

And all-time he sports a .363 career winning percentage. So my point still stands overall imo. Hes completely untested in college and was abysmal in his 2 seasons as a HC steering the wheel. Id be livid if we hired him as a KU fan

he was hired by the magic .. to be the head coach of a full rebuild .. (2 best players including Dwight howard all star and defensive POY) were gone from the year before ..

and not suprisingly they were bad for 2 years and he was fired .. more then half way through year 3 ..

the magic were just as bad the rest of that season and the next 3 years .. (players issue not coach)

he took over the NETS at the end of the covid season and was 7-3 ..

he then became the NETS coach 7 games into the 22-23 season when they fired Nash (he went 43-32) and they went to the playoffs .. (even after trading KD and kyrie midseason)

now he is back as the HC of a rebuilt .. with out the 2 stars .. and was fired more then half way into the season ..

he always has been a very very respected ast coach .. and he for sure has the resume to be a HC
