2025 Final Four

I was wrong. I'll take my L on this. Jon Scheyer is a mid coach. Duke had way more talent, way more height and still couldn't win. $22 million for that roster and those dudes lost to Houston. Unreal.
Props to owning up to it.

When you have your 7'2" dude get outrebounded 0-12 vs. a 6'8" guy, not a good look.

Dude had 4 rebounds all game I believe. Scheyer clearly was outcoached but it seems like Proctor (which couldn't miss vs Baylor and the first round of the tournament) and Malauch sold that game. Makes no sense what so ever.

Because there is more to the game than that.

You act like Houston doesn't have any talent. You don't have to have NBA talent to have a very talented college basketball team.

Houston is old. Cryer and Robert both in their 5th season. Francis is a Senior, all with Houston. Sharp in this third season, all with Houston. Uzan in his third season. Wilson in his 5th season. Arceneaux in his 3rd season, all with Houston.

Those guys have played in a lot of big and close games, not just this year but in recent years. NCAA Tournament runs. That stuff matters. They played the game in Texas, not far from Houston. That matters.

You just wanted to ignore everything but NBA draft position and height, as if those things disproportionately affect basketball games.

I know there is a Wall St Journal article about the "dark money" that funds Duke, is that where the $22M is coming from ? That is just insane and you have to guess a good amount higher then #2.

Correct. That's where that number is coming from. I hope it's wrong, but I do know for a fact Flagg was making 3X more money than Scheyer this past season.

You could've just summed this up as Duke choked as most people would have but yeah man. All that stuff. Cool.

Scheyer is a mid coach and Duke choked. Dude was up 14 FFS and 9 with 2 minutes left. You over there acting like Houston was killin it. GTFOH.

That's why I called your ass out again, you didn't admit you were WRONG, you just made a bunch of excuses.

Keep at it. You look like a fool.

Yea anyone who just wants to act like Duke lost because of coaching is just making excuses. No one was complaining about his coaching 48 hours ago. Duke turned it over a couple times late and missed a front end. Otherwise, it was a matter of Houston making every free throw, hitting a three they had to make, and getting two huge defensive stops independent of the turnovers. Our resident expert mocked me for pointing out Houston's length, but Tugler's length made all the difference on two huge plays -- just like in Lawrence, he made it damn near impossible for Duke to get the ball in (leading to the steal and his own follow dunk), and he blocked a shot with 45 seconds left because he didn't fall for a pump fake and was able to use his length to block the shot in the lane.

But Houston DID outcoach Duke as well. You can't ignore that. It wasn't all coaching (IT NEVER IS) but coaching definitely had something to do with it.

I'd love some shotblocking on this team

Kelvin talked a ton about length in his presser yesterday. Said he almost never cares about height, and noted they are one of the shortest teams in the country, but said that one of the first things they do when a kid visits is measure wingspan. He said that given the way they play defense, tall, immobile guys (Sam? Luke? Tanner?) would simply never fit. They want guys like Tugler and Francis and Roberts. He also commented on what a great second and third jump Tugler has -- said his third jump is as good as most players' first jump.

It's easy to see even on TV, but watching them in person in Wichita two weeks ago, it's incredible how many balls they deflect, and how many shots and passes they affect because of their length.

Those are the types of things I wish Moser could figure out -- Kelvin knows exactly what he wants and he recruits it, and then develops it. Moser changes his mind every damn year -- shooting, defense, athleticism, etc. For a guy who talks about wanting to build an identity, he sure as heck doesn't act like it.

I've never gotten over us not getting Ekpe Udoh as a transfer. I always thought shot blocking was risky and takes you out of position, so it really wasn't worth much. Then I watch Udoh's season at baylor. Amazing. Totally changed my mind

Fact of the matter is, you were still wrong even if Duke had won because you were literally saying Houston had no shot to win and talking about them getting blown out. Well they kept themselves within punching distance the whole game and they clamped down defensively the last 10 minutes of the game and didn't allow Duke anything. You don't get to look down your nose at people all week and then hide behind excuses when you're wrong. This is the bed you made for yourself.

Good on you. Some people vanish and pretend their chatter never happened.
I wish our Sooners could get old like Houston. The Cougars are the right kind of old: "Program" old.
