GAME 6 - OKLAHOMA (3-2) vs Alcorn State (0-6) 1:00pm CST on SECNETWORK+

Our defense is pretty garbage pants. Dead last in the SEC.
Adjusted Tempo? 14th.
Offense? 8th, middle of the road.
Net KP Rating? 14th. (Sigh)
Wait, I got it: should Moser be the OC for the football team? Put him in charge and all of a sudden, you know we won’t be snapping the ball early in the play clock!

I thought we played pretty well against a really decent Alcorn State Team. We aren't where we need to be in any phase, but that is to be expected with a mostly new team and early in the year. First half, I thought we showed improvement on the defensive end and then it got spotty in the second half.

One of the things that can be hard to figure out for a coach exists on this team, and that is, some of the kids are better on defense (jones and Nwonkwo) than others playing their positions and then the opposite is true of other kids, i.e. some are better on offense than other kids at their position (Reid and davis).

I thought the best thing about the game was the play of Reid and Rogers. Both of those kids looked a lot better than they had looked earlier. Based on this game, I think Rogers could give us 10-15 minutes a game in the SEC (maybe). He looked pretty good. Reid looked a lot better than the earlier games.

Davis will be a lot more effective when he learns to flatten and play through defenders instead of contorting his body to avoid being blocked. It looks to me like Davis has a whole lot of talent.

All in all, we just looked a little lethargic. I still think this is our most talented team and Porter

Seriously?! A really good Alcorn state team?! See earlier listed KenPom rating oh and their record. Hot garbage.

Davis is a four-year veteran. Seems like maybe he should have learned basic fundamentals at this point. And he actually looks about 100 times less talented and athletic than he was said to be. He has done absolutely nothing in six games that shows anything approaching elite athleticism. I can hardly remember him dunking, and he has missed multiple layups every game.

Each game gives me less confidence about the season. This upcoming 4 game stretch will tell us a lot more about this team.
Gotta have these next four. Utilizing past years’ evidence, these next four games will decide the season.

MAYBE they can drop one or two more and turn it up in conference. But that would be completely new for an OU team since Buddy.

We held them to 20 points in the second half. The first half is when the defense struggled. I agree we looked lethargic, which wasn't good to see.

If we win three of four, you might need to go 9-9 in conference. If anyone is willing to bet on Porter going .500 in the SEC, I’d love to take that action.

How is Alcorn State a decent team? They’ve lost big to every P4 team, and also lost to South Alabama and Howard.

Not a good or even decent team.
They’re not a great team by any means, but they have played some teams close for a half like they did us last night. They were only down 6 at the half to both Maryland and LSU. When you shoot 33% on your home court, it will happen. I’m just ready for us to put together a complete game. We’ve had a bad half in practically every game we’ve played this season so far.
