Kind of interesting how similar our schedule was in Capel's 2nd year and Krugers 2nd year, at least in early conference play and late non-conference.

Both started off 3-0.

07 - lost to Derrick Rose's Memphis
12 - lost to big time Gonzaga team

07 -lost at OJ Mayo's USC
12 -lost at Arkansas

07 -7-2 record and lose at home to SFA 66-62
12 -7-2 record and lost at home to SFA 56-55

07 - won 5 straight including against Arkansas, Gonzaga, at West Virginia
12 - won 5 straight including beating top 25 OSU, and at West Virginia

07 - first 2 conference losses to KU and Beasley's KSU
12 - first 2 conference losses to KU and McGruders KSU

07 - 13-5 and pick up big surprising road win at Baylor
12 - 13-5 and pick up big surprising road win at Baylor

Through 20 games, 07 was 15-5 after beating OSU in Norman
Through 20 games, 12 is 14-6 after losing to KSU.

However 07 would lose their next 3 games before rebounding late, making the NCAA tourney and losing in the 2nd round to Louisville.

It will be interesting to see how this team finishes!

Blake Griffin gave a lot of credit to Capel for how good he was as a sophmore.
B/c as a freshmen his performances weren't even close

Griffin v. Memphis 32mins 8pts 8rebs
Griffin v. USC 24 mins 4pts 9rebs
Griffin v. SFA 24 mins 10pts 6 rebs
Griffin v. Ark 22mins 11pts 6rebs

lol

Compare Blake's stats as a freshman to anybody on the current year roster.

If Kruger had Blake there would be no comparision

I agree comparing Lon Kruger to Jeff Capel is a freaking joke and insult to Lon Kruger. I am positive Capel will be the worst OU basketball coach in my adult life and Joe C deserves a lot of blame for that blunder.

True that. Very true.

Try looking up Jeff's stats .. with Blake .. without.

The big difference is blowout losses. That 07/08 team had 3 double-digit losses when they were 15-5 compared to 2 this year. In fact, in 08, we had just lost at KU by 30, 85-55, but this team lost by 13. Big difference.

That's what was so bothersome about that 08 team...all the big double-digit beatdowns and there were plenty that year. I hope this team just makes the NCAA tourney, but if we lose our 2nd round game by 30, I will be severely disappointed just like I was that season.

You give a freshman Blake Griffin to Kruger this year and he might be 20-0.

I'm older than you are and you can add my lifetime also.

We keep talking about Blake being on that team, but the rest of the roster was very good too. Kruger would definitely had a great year with that team.

Here are some highlights:

1 Ryan Wright 6-9 229 Forward JR
5 Tony Crocker 6-6 193 Guard SO
15 David Godbold 6-5 221 Guard SR
20 Austin Johnson 6-3 165 Guard JR
23 Blake Griffin 6-10 243 Forward FR
30 Longar Longar 6-11 234 Center SR
32 Taylor Griffin 6-7 230 JR
34 Cade Davis 6-5 203 FR

He had some serious upper classmen to handle the load, pressure of big games etc. Sr. center, Jr. PF, Jr. PG, Sr. SG, and then crocker as 6th man. That's a pretty good roster to win a lot of big 12 games anyways, and Blake was just the icing on the cake.

If we would have had a Kruger coach come in immediately after Sampson, OU would have kept on humming right along in my opinion.
