+++#4/6 Oklahoma (14-2, 4-1) vs. Kansas State (12-5, 2-3) Pregame Thread+++

I haven't seen much of KSU other than tonight but to me they look to have the better overall athletes

We can overcome the bad offense but I am not sure about the D. Teams with guys who can create off the dribble are going to be trouble for us.

That was a must win if we wanted a chance at big 12 title. KU in drivers seat again. Smdh

We were never winning the Big 12....that was a pipe dream. Both WV and KU are better than we are....and it starts at the defensive end. Having said that, a 3rd place finish in conference would be a great season for this team.

I agree, third would be heck of a year for OU

KU almost lost to this very team on their homecourt..and they already have a home court loss (we don't)...so we are very much in the thick of it.

You should win when you shoot 56.5% for the game and 52% from 3. We shot 41.9% for the game and 28% from the 3. They shot better than they usually do and we shot worse. You can blame some of their good shooting on our d being poor. Some of it was just blind luck. Some of Trae's turnovers were poor plays on his part. Some of them were fouls disguised as turnovers. As usual, when you go on the road in the Big XII, the rules at one end of the court are different from the rules on the other end of the court.

I thought Odomes & Doolittle played well. Trae wasn't his usual self. It was probably the worst game of the year for everyone else.

I agree that we aren't out of it, but our warts are being more exposed with every game. I am hopeful that Lon will get some correctable issues addressed and that we can continue to improve. Having said that, when you get blown out by the 7th best team in the Big 12.....it's fair to say that concerns are warranted.

Yet I was encouraged by Doolittle and Odomes.

I am much more interested in how Trae and Brady play in April. Use the conference to learn how to avoid nights like this.

I’m not sold on WVU being better than the rest of the good teams in this conference

Win our home games and beat osu, isu, Baylor on the road and we might still win.

Just as much substance as saying ou was never going to win the league

Thus far, the metrics and the eye test/results are on my side....but feel free to lay out an argument and we can have a discussion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say a week ago that OU, West Virginia, and Tech were starting to separate themselves, with KU a step behind? I guess the metrics and eye test didn't have you quite as worried back then. As far as results, I guess the Sooners are lagging way behind all those teams throughout the country who are undefeated and/or have more than five wins against ranked teams.

Nice attempt at the straw man......never said OU was lagging behind "way behind" anyone. I did say OU was amongst a group of teams that was looking like they could separate themselves from the rest of the conference. Since that time, KU has proven they look to be formidable once again. They beat a team last night that we lost to by double digits. And we followed that up with a poor performance tonight against a bubble team (and WV won at K-State).

As far as metrics (per Kenpom):
Tech - 5
KU - 10
WV - 11
OU - 20

From that data, I don't think it's unreasonable to project, at this point, that we aren't winning the league....all things being equal. I'm sorry if that reality bothers some fans, but like I said a few minutes ago, a 3rd place finish in the best conference in America would be a great season for this team. My hope is we improve on the defensive end and can make a run at the league championship, but the numbers don't suggest that right now.
