6 straight NCAA's with runs (and elite 8 last year)

Coaches that have been given a show cause penalty don't coach.

They don't have to. the NCAA can't stop a school from contracting with others.

If the school is willing to accept the consequences then the show cause means nothing really PLUS it's a hearing....you might win. Doubtful, but you get your story out and the NCAA can look more schmuckladen.

I can't even begin to rationalize that line of thinking. In essence you're paying someone (Pearl) to bring sanctions upon your program.

That's completely and utterly stupid.

Not if it allows you to hire a coach that you would not normally be able to hire and he wins enough on the back end to make up for any short term sanctions.

that doesn't matter:

1. it's still a hearing. nothing says you hafta lose
2. EVEN IF we lose, worst case is one year post-season ban. We aren't making the ncaa's with this group next season anyway so no damage done.
3. if we miss the post-season conference tourney...so what? one extra game lost? who cares.

getting our coach >>> show cause hearing

Surely you are not serious. But if you are, you are overlooking something. If he violated the rules and lied about it already once before, then he may just do it again (See Sampson). Joe C and Boren are not likely to assume this risk, nor should they.

In addition, the NCAA may not look too kindly on OU in regards to the Gallon investigation, should OU hire Pearl. OU would not look like it was trying real hard to clean up its act.

I'd pay Pearl one dollar for every year we were sanctioned because of him. That would be his contract. After the sanctions end he could elevate to a competitive salary.

Dude comes across as a complete slimeball. I don't want him coaching at OU.

+1. Unfortunately, I don't think Castiglione nor Boren have the balls to hire him.

since when?

He doesn't come across as a slimeball at all. He's very endearing and fans love him.

slimeball = Calamari

Exactly. The odds of him getting hired are about 1,000,000,000 - 1, but I don't think you should completely write an elite coach just because he hosted a BBQ and lied to the NCAA about it.

The Tenn fans were holding a rally to keep Pearl. People don't really get how big of a desert Tenn is in men's basketball. They may never be good again.

yep, see my post on the other thread. Over 70% of their fans desperately want him to remain coach...and that's AFTER the bad tourney loss and all this NCAA crap.

He made a HUGE impact in Tennessee and he will make a huge one here.

It would be IDIOTIC not to hire him. idiotic.

It would probably be idiotic not to go after him at least. But knowing Joe C and Boren, we basically didn't go after BCG and he had no NCAA trouble at all, just a history of being a drunk. We won't go after Pearl.

then who is better?

please enlighten us oh swami

Oh I dont know, someone that isnt currently in trouble with the NCAA maybe? You know, considering we're on their **** list right now and under investigation ourselves.

I would suggest a solid, proven coach with a proven track record in coaching, recruiting, and not cheating. Sound like anyone being mentioned?

I will say I believe Pearl is one of the best coaches in the country, and if he were interested it would be a no-brainer in any other situation. Unfortunately, we are in THAT situation. Cant do it, not this time anyways.
