A little news from Tennessee

Fired April 25, 2013 and already filed a lawsuit? That's pretty quick.

No, not a new firing, not a new lawsuit, just new facts about an old story.

This paragraph of the article makes it sound recent. Of course, the quality of journalism practiced these days makes a person take everything with a grain of salt.

In a letter dated April 25, 2013, from UT senior associate athletics director Mike Ward to Mason, he told her “continued employment is no longer in the best interest of the University of Tennessee Athletics Department and your employment will be terminated effective June 3, 2013 due to unsatisfactory job performance.”

Does this not mean she just got fired? I know the lawsuit for discrimination has been around for some time but it looks like she is now being fired.

Lots of turmoil in trhe UT athletic department in the past few months. At the bottom of the article Norm posted, there was a byline to click on that said Simmit was being retained as head coach emeritus for anoher year. However, her salary is beinf cut from $354,000 to $85,000. They need money to pay off the football and mens basketball coaches they have fired and still paying them. It should read Summit, not Simmit.

And I stand corrected. This is a new firing. It was her boss's boss firing that triggered the lawsuit. "Schlosser was among 15 UT athletic department employees terminated on April 16, 2012".

As I understand it there was a previously filed lawsuit. Heather Mason as the WBB S&C coach was sueing because she was paid less than the men's BB S&C coach. I also believe there were others as part of the lawsuit claiming they were paid less than the men's counterpart. They also claimed retaliation for filing the lawsuit...I suspect the firing will be added as part of the retaliation.
