Looking back on this year:

Aaryn was a very versitile player who was one of the best we had at creating her own shot, was a good defender, and was the scorer we needed her to be. I would give her an A.

Morgan was solid but not spectacular. Overall I would give her a C+.

Kornet started off badly with her shot but finished the season on a high. Would like to see her improve her rebounding, defense, and ability to penetrate and knock down jump shots. I would give her a C+.

Sharane is a good penetrator but her outside shot wasn't good this year although she shot a good FG percentage and a very high free throw percentage. Good defender. Ball handling needs work and limit fouls. I would give her a B.

Carter can get by defenders on occasion but she still needs to work on her shot. I would give her a C.

Griffin started off with some good games but struggled down the stretch when we really needed her. I would give her a C-.

Kaylon makes a few good plays but had trouble staying out of foul trouble. She needs to improve finishing, defense, limit fouls, and rebouding over the summer. I would give her a C-.

Shaya is a player we still don't know much about. She only averaged 6.5 minutes per game and averaged less than one point per game. If you can't score, you better be a great defender and rebounder but so far we haven't seen either. I would give her a C-.

Derica showed some ability to shoot 3s but is easy to defend. She must develop the ability to penetrate to really be effective. The good news is, she doesn't make many mistakes. I would give her a C.

T'ona is a good reserve coming off the bench to bring energy and defense to the team. She can penetrate but we don't see that ability often. I would give her a C+.

Portia gave us some really good minutes late in the year. Makes us wonder how good she would have been with more minutes. I would give her a C.

Gibbs didn't play enough to evaluate.

I am looking forward to seeing what Maddie and Peyton bring to the team. We need for them to be really good because of the scoring we are losing in Aaryn and because we didn't see any freshmen who are ready at this point to take over.

Thoughts?

How can you give a 3 year starter a c+ and then a freshman a c+ who rarely played?

If Saturday was the final exam, I would say that the final had a killer impact on season grades for some.

But I've already done my rant and shed my postseason loss tears, so good luck seniors, have good offseasons everyone else, and welcome to our new recruits.

I don't think minutes determines the value a player brings. Example, a player can be really good but if they are playing behind a more experienced good player, their minutes will be limited through no fault of their own. I try to evaluate each player on their roles, experience, and effectiveness when they were in the games.

Please give us your evaluations with explanations.

Aaryn: A+
Final remarks: Would easily start for any team in the country pretty much any year of her stellar four-year career. Can we please somehow get her a few Jason White years of eligibility?

There that's my contribution :D

Just my opinion:

1. Aaryn had a good beginning and ending, but faltered some during Big XII season so in my mind somewhere around a B to B+ would be more in the area.

2. Morgan as you stated was not spectacular, but her shooting and ball handling seemed to decline over this year compared to other years so in my mind somewhere around a C- to C.

3. Kornet just seemed to be always looking over her shoulder and never got conformable on the floor so in my mind a C- to C would be more appropriate. Hopefully she gets here mojo back and improves on all aspects of the game.

4. Sharane had times she was unstoppable and others when she was unnoticeable so in my mind a C to C+. Keep improving at what she does, but remember the game is 40 minutes.

5. Carter seemed great at times on offense, but does seem to know the other aspects of the game all that well so in my mind a D+ to C-. As a Freshman some of what I saw was understandable, but coming in the program as a go to person from her High School program I don't understand.

6. Griffin just never learned how to use her 6' 6" frame to her advantage so not sure if that was the teachers fault or the pupils fault. Showed improvement in some areas every year just never was very polished at times so I would believe a C-.

7. Kaylon at times seems lost and others times seemed to know what to do which this is scary from a stand point is it the teacher or pupil. She has a ton of upside just hope she gets it before she leaves the program so C- minus seems pretty good.

8. Shaya just didn't get on the floor that much so if she has the talent is she struggling with the jump from High School to College or what so to try and rate her would be hard.

9. Dercia came in as a shooter, but seemed to be very tentative at times so in my mind a D+ to a C- is more in store. Needs to work on all aspects of the game and remember to shot when open.

10. T'ona is quick, but has no shot and when pressured in a couple of games had a problem handling it so in my mind D to D+ seems more appropriate.

11. Portia never seemed to make the jump from JC to D1 although the last couple of games she played a little more inspired than in earlier games so a C- to C seems to fit.

12. Gibbs is anyone's guess what the staff was thinking about here, because raw is an understatement. Hopefully there is something we are not seeing that comes out sooner than later.

Rating them as a team (defense, rebounding, etc.) would be somewhere around a C- to C. As mentioned on this board before hopefully the individual players use the off season wisely to benefit their game (which I wonder how much of this happened last year) and hopefully the coaching staff use the time with the team prior to the season to get this team playing as one not 2, 3, 4, or 5 individuals as we saw with this years teams way to often.

What rating do you give Coach Coale?

I realize that fans are made to hate coaches after losses and credit players after wins, especially in college, but a player can only be around four years whereas our coach has now been here almost two decades.

I give this season a D-minus and the coaching effort a D. We improved on free throws but actually seemed to regress mostly throughout the season. Why are we lobbing threes several feet behind the arch? Why are we passing the ball to the other team when we're inbounding the ball over and over? Why are both occurring in the final game of the season?!

"Aim low. Aim so low that no one will even care if you succeed." -Marge Simpson

That's awful advice, but after the way our basketball seasons ended, there's nothing left to do except wear my Sugar Bowl "Sooner Magic" shirt and pretend that nothing has happened between January and now. :D

Considering we were picked #1 preseason and we under-performed significantly, I would give her a D-. Sherri is a good coach but this season left a lot to be desired.

I believe the development of players falls mostly on the shoulders of all the coaches (there is some items as in shooting, conditioning, basketball IQ, etc. that falls on the Player) so with all that has happen this year I would give the Coaching STAFF a D. If the players we have on campus today that we are counting heavily on for next year don't progress then we could be in trouble unless we get well established players coming into the program.

Replying to several above posts.
Aaron only gets a B to B- for the fade midseason, slow first halfs, and not showing the hustle and leadership all of her senior year that she did in the NCAA loss to DePaul. Note Joanna mcfarlands senior year and her hustle. BB isn't all physical talent.

Coach Coale grades out a B- to a C- because we really don't know if the lack of improvement THIS YEAR is all on the coaches, shared with the players, some team conflict we don't know about, or personal problems of team members we aren't aware of.
Coaching staff grade for scouting recruits potential, development of individual players, and recruiting/developing talent for a balanced winning team C- to a D

Players - overall, I believe each player played to their level of ability, skill and experience considering their high school experience and ability upon arrival...and my opinion that the returners have made less than average improvements since arrival.

Coaching Staff - overall...a D at best. When one considers the resources, facilities, history and comparison to peers over the past 4-6 years (top 25 teams), a D grade is merciful. In other words...they should not have dropped completely out of the top 25 this year. The conference peers selected them to win the conference, therefore, they should have come in at least 2-3 place since you cannot vote for your own team to win and more than half the conference must have voted them to win it all.

But again...not rocket science. Recruit the best and if those coaches (and players) you have cannot recruit the best...replace them. Sign recruits that go to Legacy Hall and say, "I can do that and more" rather than recruits that stand there in amazement saying, "Wow! Imagine that!"

The tradition and history has to mean something or it's the wrong recruit regardless of how many potential community service hours they can provide, or what their behind the arc accuracy is when no one is guarding them (or they played less than competitive teams their entire hs career), regardless if they have tattoos or not, regardless of their sexual preference (what's really worse...a hetero that's sleeping with the entire football team or a lesbian) and regardless if they are a Christian or not. If religious values is something desired then get a great student-athlete and LIVE a Christian life rather than talk about it. Furthermore, if they all are Chrisitan's when they arrive , you're preaching to the choir! Just saying...

Really, Norm? That seems a little over the top. Are we supposed to believe that a particular team should be favored to win its conference just because a bunch of media types say so?

You're probably right when you say this team underperformed. I'm just not sure we had equal talent to teams like Baylor and West Virginia.

Sherri is responsible for recruiting so she shouldn't get a pass on that aspect of coaching. Coaching involves everything from recruiting to player development to results on the court.

What grade would you give Sherri?

My point wasn't that Sherri did a spectacular job this year. My point was that we shouldn't necessarily believe that the Sooners should have won the conference title based entirely on what some media folks predicted.

Oh, and I would probably give Sherri a "C."

Not that it really matters, but I thought OU was picked first by the coaches.

Year after year preseason polls are proven wrong in most sports. Not sure why everyone continues to put value on them.

I don't grade the player. I grade the team and this team had know chemistry and like it or not Sherry and the coaching staff lost this team way back. You won and lose as a team. This group as a team gets a C- and the Staff gets a D-. JMO.

I don't give out grades because I don't know exactly what they are supposed to do. Who let that player get loose for a layup? Whose player was that on the three-point line? Who didn't block out?

I'm reminded of a story about John McGraw of the NY Giants. When asked why he didn't play a rookie who was hitting 400 in Spring Training, he said that the kid also fielded 400. I don't know who was fielding 400.
