In a few games Aaryn hardly scored until the second half when she sometimes ended up with her average or more. Some on here were critical that she didn't score more earlier. If you would explain your thinking, I would greatly appreciate it as I have always been of the opinion that points scored in the last 5 minutes count just as much as points scored in the first 5 minutes.

Norm, I have not been one of the posters that have criticized her for this. However, I have noticed it. She continually misses in the first half when the game is on the line. The, at the latter part of the game, when it is out of hand, she starts hitting and ends up with 18 or so points. I hope the know it all poster that threatened to put me on Ignore a few days ago does not get upset with this post. LOL

Yes, I certainly have noticed it too. I guess my thinking is, if she still gets her average, I can forget if she made most of her points in the last part of the game as opposed to 10 in the first half and 10 in the second half.

I don't intend to be critical of their thinking, only trying to understand their rationale.

I get where it's coming from but in the end she is hitting when we need points. When she is off we just need others to score and that has been the biggest issue. It's like she can't hit in first half and others can then second half it's reverse. We need them all to click.

Prior to this year, I thought that she didn't force things and let the game come to her. I don't know any more.

Maybe it just seems to work out this way but there are times when we are hopelessly behind that she seems to find her stroke. Could just be timing or whatever. Those points in the last five minutes can make a difference if you haven't spent most of the game missing the ocean from the beach.

Could be that she is heavily guarded by the other team in the first half???? And then they lay low a little and give her some space????? And then she fires them "rockets" !!!!

We really missed DRob when she graduated and we will miss Aaryn too. Best of luck to her in the future.

I noticed that this year she drew the attention of the defense a lot more. some pretty much just kept her from the ball.

There were a lot of times when she seemed to trail everyone else down the court. The defense seemed to lose track of her and she would be open.

Some shooters can drive around someone to get a three point look. Vegas really wasn't good at that. She was a spot shooter that didn't like anyone in her face. She could have worked harder to get open. Actually, most of our three-point shooters had to have an open look, best provided by an inside out game rather than a transition game since we didn't get a lot of good transition looks.

I don't agree. Vegas is quick and creates her own space.

I have a different theory, unselfishness. I think the basic game strategy for most of the year was to get the ball into Nicole and Kay Kay, in part because we knew opponents would concentrate on guarding Vegas. As the early season progressed, people were questioning why Morgan didn't assert herself into the offense, become more selfish. All along, we'd have Sharane get into foul trouble and Carter playing like a freshman. Also, Kornet was committed from early on to taking a lot of shots, especially 3's. I think Vegas was a good team player who didn't become selfish until it was obvious we needed her scoring. Then when she got in a groove she'd score 20 plus points in the second half.

I think the key next year is Sharane. She just has to play smarter. Her leadership can make the difference. I hope she decides to take that role and responsibility.

Aaryn learned how to score in different ways. Her strength was spotting up from behind the arc. I will miss her fade away off the dribble. She became a decent defender, not great, but good. She will be missed, but always a Sooner.

+1. I don't think I'll ever figure out Sybarite.

What more could Aaryn have done for this team? Look at her numbers! She was a unanimous first-team All Big 12 (again) for a reason. How about getting more pull from Morgan, Sharane, and others?

You go out there and run around for 40 minutes to try to find MORE shots than she's already taken. Ridiculous. There's a reason why you're often alone in your assertions.

Very simply, Aaryn will go down as one of the best players in the Sherri era.

Am I the only one who noticed that AE played point guard almost the entire game against DePaul? Seemed to present a real problem for DePaul to defend.
