Alondes Williams

JB needs to shoot the basketball more. Without looking, he may have the highest 3pt percentage on the team if not close.

At 8-for-21 (38%), he is in a virtual tie with Calixte and Freeman.

But maybe it's Odomes who needs to shoot more threes: He's at 50% (3-for-6).

I wish Doo had redshirted last year with the way he has come on this year.

Williams can score and should be able to defend. There wasn't any D in that juco game. Lon will have him defending if he wants to play.

Looks to me like most of the Triton team should try and play linebacker in the Big 12 those are some thick guys.

I agree on Doo. Also Odomes his freshmen year. I know the coaches wished they wouldve as well.

The same guys that didnt defend last year are defending this year... Its a choice!

I used to wish we would have redshirted Odomes. But do you think the coaches feel that way now?
I love his energy off the bench, but it wouldn't surprise me if the coaches are glad to have that scholarship open up. I just don't think Ro ever got close to his ceiling.

I honestly don't know his practice habits, but I'd be highly surprised if he was ever a gym rat his whole stretch at OU. That light just didnt come on for him like it has done for others in the past and CJ last summer. I cant look at his game and say "he's truly improved with _____ on his own."

Maybe he has other stuff on his plate besides basketball. It IS a game so life prevails.

Yeah I dont know. I think a guy like that maybe glad they didnt. If he wouldve turned into a James then for sure. I see your point

Every good or great team has two or three guys like RO. He doesn't shoot well, and some college players never do for whatever reason. But he competes his tail off every night and has for his entire career. And everything I have read about him suggests that his work ethic is strong and he is a leader and selfless player. Not ever player's role is to score or be the star, but you have to have guys willing to do the other stuff in order to win.

Yeah I think he brings value to the team. I just don't know if the coaches still regret not giving him a redshirt his freshman season. I just don't think he ever made big strides in any aspect of his game. But he's always been solid and a great effort guy

That player is already on our roster. Austin Reaves, the transfer from Wichita State, is a 45% shooter from three. He made a school record seven three pointers in the first half of one game the year before he transferred.

Austin had to sit out this season, but he should be very comfortable with the returning players on next year’s team, having spent the past few months playing with them in practice.

What we need is a big man that can keep defenses honest so their not just guarding the 3 point line. I don't see that player in our near future.

Thanks for posting, Jccouger! In case anyone is interested, Alondes scored 34 points in that game.

We thought we had that guy on our roster but he's decided to go AWOL for the 1st half of his senior season.

I'm talking about next year and the year after. We have 3 project power forwards in Kuath, Merritt & Garang projected to take Muni's spot. For our shooters to be successful we need someone who can draw defenders into the paint to give shooters space.

Taking the current Muni’s spot won’t be much of a challenge. If his replacement can make an occasional shot from twelve to fifteen or more and shoot free throws, he will be an improvement.

Let’s be honest, most of our conversations about Muni the past four years have centered around his potential. That’s especially true of his offense. He got most of us excited when he developed an effective baby hook with either hand. Unfortunately, that’s where his development on offense ended. Thus, he has never been a threat to score beyond eight feet and in.

True, but he can really score from 8 feet and in. He just needs to do it.

After watching some highlights, Alondes plays like james harden, to me. Before the trolls start flipping out, I am not saying he is as good. He is built like him, and he seems to have some playmaking ability. He is not a terrible shooter either. I think the kid is going to be really good.

Triton, the national champion in their division last year, is a very deep team. You may be surprised to learn that Alondes only averages around 17 minutes per game. Their coach plays a lot of bodies, and most of them can score. Four average double figures in points, four more average 8 plus ppg (two of them over 9), and another four average between 5.5 and 7 ppg. Triton averages over 94 ppg. Since their opponents average around 66 ppg, guess they play a little defense too. I didn’t see that on the video I watched. lol

It will be interesting to see what Alondes can do with more playing time. The additional minutes could also be a challenge for him, especially if he is called on to play 30 or more minutes at some point. He appears to be in good shape. If not, he will be if he wants to play when he gets to OU.

I agree with you, he’s going to be really good.
