Alston mason to portal

This has seemed like the most logical move all along. Was already behind two returning guards his age, and all indications are that the three incoming freshmen are likely better players.

Making room for a transfer guard.

Good luck to him. He'd better off at Saint Louis or Kansas City. Somewhere like that.

Shouldn't be a surprise, but I know it is to some of ya'll.

This is the kind of kid you recruit to Loyola, and develop into a decent player in 2-3 years. Not the kind of player we need currently. I'm not faulting Moser either. He know Mason, and the PG position was unsettled to say the least. Just never was a long-term solution.

We'll see him in the tourney in three years playing for UMKC or somewhere like that and torching some big school in the first round.

Odds say you are wrong, so I'd take that bet.

The teams in the Big 12 that are making noise aren't recruiting/playing kids like Mason. That is just a fact.

I'm not saying he's better than the people we're recruiting currently through the portal or that he's a significant loss. But I also think it's okay to say something nice about someone who was a Sooner and seemed to be a good teammate...

Simply saying he's got the tools to go to a smaller school and be a guy who can fill it up as a senior.

Thanks for your time, Mr. Mason and best of luck to you.

I think we can get more value out to this scholarship over the next 3 years than he could deliver here.

Based on who's looking at Mason, positive subtraction for OU.

Wait…..didn’t we take transfers from two of the teams on that list within the last five years? How did they work out for us?

He's exactly right. Mason will transfer to smaller school. Will play a lot. Will get better. Will have his moment in the spotlight. Did you actually read his post? Your response is irrelevant (The teams in the Big 12 that are making noise aren't recruiting/playing kids like Mason. That is just a fact) to what he posted? Your reading comprehension is poor, even if your statement is correct.

3 games under .500 in the Big 12 the last two years, with 7th and 8th place finishes. Missed the NCAA Tournament this year as well.

So not great Swans. Not great.

Not remotely the point. Both players who came to OU from those programs have been solid (or better) contributors. One of them was first team All Big 12 last season and is doing very well in the NBA right now. The other we all (or at least the vast majority of us) dearly hope will return next season.

I could care less about what any OU players do in the NBA. If we're talking NBA basketball, I'm a Celtics' fan.

I care about OU winning basketball games at an acceptable rate, and having a respectable post-season presence for what our basketball program is. THAT is what matters to me. And we've been failing at that.
