Has been released from his NLI with Iowa State. He's a very qualified PG with size out of Houston. Can play at the Big 12 level and likely contribute as a freshman. This is a better fit than Kyan Anderson IMO. Not sure if coaching staff is interested, but if they're seriously considering PG in the 2011 class, they should work this one.

Thanks, Daze.

What do you like about his game? Do you think he is the type of player/person that can come in and lead?

Strengths:
Odunsi is a versatile combination guard that is physically ready to compete on the perimeter in college. He is a scorer that can get to the basket by slashing and hit mid range jumpers. Odunsi simply finds a way to put the ball in the basket. He is a good passer with matching court vision which allows him to help at the point in a pinch. Odunsi is a very good rebounder as well for a guard.

Weaknesses:
Odunsi's number one concern should be to be more of a consistent shooter especially from three point land which with some improvement would make his game off the bounce that more dangerous.

Bottom Line:
Odunsi is a physical guard that can score mostly off the bounce. He can rebound and is versatile enough to help at the point. His production will increase even more as his three point shooting becomes more consistent.

Notes
Committed to Iowa State in May 2010...Release from letter of intent to Iowa State in April 2011...

Why did he ask for his release and why did Iowa St grant the request?
Wants immediate playing time.
"They brought in five transfers," Odunsi said of Iowa State. "That's good on their part, and I know the coaches have to win, but I want to be very effective as a freshman. I love basketball. I'm a competitor."

Thanks, Daze.

Yes, he's built that way. He's a leader, but as a frosh, I'm not sure that will be evident. What will be evident is he has size and can hit you multiple ways - score, set up, defend, etc.

He's not a star but is consistent and steady. As I mentioned before, would be a better fit than Anderson if we're looking to fill that PG 2011 spot. He'd be a major component by the time he's an upperclassman; and can contribute this season, either as a backup to Blair or even as a starter.

He is a VERY competitive kid. Almost to a fault. He doesn't have an attitude or anything like that, but he doesn't take an ounce of mess from anyone, even his own teammates. From time to time he can be too intense, IMO.

Per ESPN "The release comes with the condition that Odunsi is not permitted to attend another Big 12 school."

If only we'd added the same codicil to our release of Damian James.

Pretty sure I read this morning that players who have signed an LOI but never enrolled cannot be released with conditions (can only do that with players who transfer after enrolling). For example, if OU could have told Damion James he couldn't go to UT, I'm sure you would have.

On Odunsi, I like how in his explanation for why he's asking for a release he says it's because they brought in a bunch of transfers, and he's a competitor. Leaving because they have better players ≠ competitor IMO.

that is correct. if there is an agreement between isu & odunsi not to go to another big 12 school, it is an informal arrangement and not binding.

exactly

This is one that Capel blew completely and totally.

20.1ppg...48.7% on 236 3-point shooting.3.2 assists..85.6% Free Throws.

& how does Iowa State get him lol...guess he likes losing lol

Tyrus McGee is not one that Capel blew. At the time of his signing in the Fall, OU had high expectations for TJ, Cam, and Calvin as freshmen. Blair was starting his soph season. Not only does there not appear to be a need for OU, but it also would not look like a very appealing place for a jc guard to go if he's looking to play major minutes. I'm sure Capel and staff liked Tyrus, but at that time it wouldn't have made sense for either party.

OU only had one scholarship and needed a big. They took Goff. While you can obviously make an argument for Spangler in this case, the McGee recruitiment was just a matter of bad timing.
