Any updates on starters?

Reid could be our best player by the end of the year. He’s that talented
Let's pump the brakes a bit.

He's young and he hasn't proven he can shoot the ball. It's going to be hard to be the "best player" when we have other guys that I expect to shoot it a lot better.

Spacing is going to matter with this team. Wague isn't a floor spacer. At all. Davis isn't much of one either. This isn't 50 years ago when you can put a bunch of big or even athletic guys on the floor, and have success. We play in the SEC. There are plenty of great athletes. It will be hard to score points with 2-3 guys on the court that can't shoot it.

I can somewhat relate because I do like the roster better than most of Moser's rosters. Two things give me pause: his best roster was two years ago and he missed the tourney and did a terrible job using the athletes on that team. Second, while I do think there might be more quality players on this team than most, it jumped out of me this morning when I read the SEC preview in The Athletic that even though their analyst is high on OU (he predicts an 8th place finish), his biggest concern is lack of depth. I think that is reasonable because while there are some guys who we think/hope can be good, several of them (Jones, JN, Atak, Rogers) have never played at this level. And two of those guys are coming off major injuries. For those reasons, it won't absolutely shock me if they struggle, and if that happens, we will definitely have to rely heavily on a few guys.

I agree with you on Wague. If he can play like he did last season after Moser was forced to start him, it would be a huge boost. If not, and we have to rely on a true freshman and/or play small at the five, we will have our usual issues getting destroyed inside.
What teams do they say have depth? I Imagine we are pretty similarly situated as most teams in the "whose line is it anyways?" NCAA era..

Maybe I typed that wrong. Could be. He’s the most god gifted talented player on the roster.

In the SEC preview, he mentions UK, Arkansas, A&M, and Vandy as teams with good depth. He has us ahead of the latter two, so that doesn't mean he thinks they are better than OU. He really likes our starters.

i am still not convinced that Reid can play the 3 at all ...

I hope i am wrong but he seems like a college 4 ..
It'll come down to his ability to hit a corner 3. Jalon Moore went from a non-factor in the corner at GT to a weapon at OU. Hopefully Reid can do the same.

He can guard any forward in the country, so not worried about that end.

right and moore still pretty much NEVER played the 3 at OU ... that is my point ..

What you are trying to say is that he is the most athletic.

Athleticism doesn't usually (always) mean best player.

He's just a true sophomore. Let him come off the bench and be offense for the second unit while continuing to improve his skills.

No. Because JN is probably the most athletic.

Talented. Skilled. Athletic. Many things besides athleticism

I think we start with a Dayton Forsythe lineup...just him standing out on the court all by himself intimidating the other team. He wins the tip, drives quickly and gets an and-1 to start the game. 4 guys come in to sub, just as Moser is smirking a middle finger smile at all the fear we just instilled in the opponent.

Part of me still expects Porter to try to start Sam.

The ability to shoot the ball and/or finish efficiently is still the overwhelming me most important thing in basketball. Especially in terms of saying somebody is our best player.

I just don't see it with him yet. Sorry. Dude didn't shoot it well from 3. Didn't shoot it well from the FT line. And was pretty mediocre shooting it everywhere else.

He might have the ability to put it together some day and be our best player, but I'd be shocked if he were that right now, given show he shoots it and how others shoot it. Seems like a player to me that starts coming on later in the year and maybe has a really good Junior year, IF he figures it out (again, shooting mostly).

Everyone can debate who the best player is until they are blue in the face. I’m just gonna wait and see. I think we legit have 5-6 players that could end up “the best”. There is so much unknown with some of the guys, but so high of a possible upside. I think Nwanko could end up a beast, but we won’t really know how some of these guys talents translate until the season begins. What I think is cool, is the potential that so many players have this season. I can’t wait to see how it plays out.

Lusk posted something just now with notes and info from practice so far, if anyone who subscribes would be interested in reading and summarizing for the rest of us.

I have one more month on my $1 promo.

1. Kai rogers has looked better than wague. Could start at some point

2. Atak one of the best offensive players we have. Def still lacking some

3. Davis most complete player.

4. Reid also been really good. He’s got the potential to be the best player on the team — and some believe he already is — but I think he’s still got a little way to go. “Derrion has an NBA body for sure. He’s a slasher type offensively, a really good rebounder, and an elite, physical defender.”
(Direct quote bc I said the same thing and get beat up on… before this article came out FYI)

5. Xb. Adjusting to big boy ball. Too many to’s and over dribbles at times

6. Pack small but lights out ahooter

7. Dayton not far behind pak and brown.

8. 9 man rotation is his guess and Jadon jones may be left out.
