He's basically admitting he was proven wrong (duh) but insisting that the decision to fire Capel is a recent and surprising development, that he was correct about Capel's status, given how things stood a couple of days ago, but that there was a reversal of some sort that changed things.
EDIT: He's also admitting this swing-and-a-miss, as he's termed it, hurts his credibility and will haunt him for a few years, but he understands, he says, that that's the nature of the business.
In short, I think he's handling it pretty well, given the circumstances. I don't understand why he's coming in for mocking and abuse here and over there. He's not perfect -- far from it -- but he's better than most, if not all, of the other options for OU sports news.
