Apple TV and ROKU Apps

I no longer have cable or an antenna at all. I just have the internet and sling tv. with those I see just about any sporting event in the world. so many places events are streamed to that it's almost juvenile to have regional restrictions.

This is my first football and basketball season without cable. Only thing I am missing is the DVR functionality.

I've done a free trial with each and if I were ready to cut the cable right now, I'd go with PS Vue for one key reason: It has a cloud DVR function, meaning you can schedule particular programs to record, after which you have a month to watch them. Sling, by contrast, offers recent programs on an on-demand basis, but it's their choice (or the network's, not sure which) which will be available to you, not yours.

And to reiterate, with any of these services, switching from game to game on a Saturday afternoon is not easy.
I seriously considered Vue because of the cloud DVR function, but I started out with Sling over Vue based on other issues. Every program that my wife and DVRed is available next day on Hulu, so we haven't really missed DVR. I have the commercial-free Hulu, yet I instinctively reach for the remote during commercial cuts.

I suppose it depends upon the service, the streaming device, the number of games you want to watch, and which channels those games are on, but with Sling on Roku, you can switch between two games on the service with one button. If you wanted to jump between three or more games, that's where not having channel numbers becomes inconvenient, though with the way Sling groups programs it's not that difficult to find other games. Another potential issue is if one game you're watching is on Sling and the other is on antenna, but I personally like this because I can use the picture-in-picture feature on my TV to display output from both sources in split screen. With my old cable receiver, I was stuck with the receiver's built-in PIP, where the smaller picture obscures part of the bigger picture.

All of that is very user-specific, but I would agree that cable is more convenient overall. Whether it's worth the additional monetary cost and the headaches that come from dealing with companies like Cox is another matter.

Oh, if I could manage significant savings by switching to Vue or Sling, I would but TWC (now Spectrum) gouges me on the cost of internet. By the time I add the services I watch on the streaming side, it's a virtual wash.

Glad to hear there's a quicker way to switch between games than I thought -- I had only a week's free trial on both Vue and Sling, so I'm sure there are features I missed.

I watch a lot of movies on TCM and sometimes record sporting events (like last night's OU-Tulane game, for example), so I'd definitely get use out of Vue's DVR feature.
