Arent vs Puma

Boog, at this point, I don't care about this year and am all about getting kids ready for next year. Puma won't be here next year, so I agree with Lon giving all the minutes to Neal and Arent.

By the way, Neal should redshirt next year. He won't get many minutes with Ro, Fitz, arent and mbuye playing and we lose ro, arent and fitz next year, and it would give neal a chance to play for the follwing 2 years.

Arent is horrible. He's the one guy on our team that I would say has no place on a Big XII roster. Puma is just better. I also don't see Arent getting any minutes next year, outside of blowouts and extreme foul trouble. He can barely crack the lineup now, and that's without M'baye.

When I've seen Puma play, he has played pretty well. Isn't Arent bigger than Puma?

He may be taller but he doesn't play bigger. He would be more effective if he just stood straight up under the basket than his current defensive stance.

I can remember thinking Jason Yannish was horrible, and he wasn't very good, but he provided some valuable minutes down the stretch of games his sr. year.

I think the same could be said for James Mayden, and the Turner kid who didn't hang around Norman long. Both weren't very accomplished on the offensive end, but its hard to find bigs who can move. At least it has been for us, and Arent can get up and down the floor. He will improve.

Neal isn't a Big 12 player. No sense in redshirting him and having him taking up a scholarship an extra year. Best to be able to use that scholarship on a better talent as soon as you possibly can.

he may improve but he better do it quick

If I remember correctly, he's only a sophomore. Typically, JUCO's improve the most between their first and second season of D-1 play. I don't expect him to be Blake Griffin next year (or ever), but he will be better.

on soonersports it says he's a junior

I am not trying to be a dick but does this discussion even matter? Here are the numbers in conference play for these two players:

Arent--4.1Min--2FGM 5FGA--1.0Reb--0.4ppg
Puma--3.5Min--0FGM 2FGA--0.5Reb--0.0ppg

I highly doubt that more minutes for either of these guys would equate to better play by the team.

FWIW I subscribe to the BOB philosophy of giving Arent the minutes since he will still be here next year.

I'd love to be able to take credit for that so I will finally have proof somebody agrees with me :ez-roll: , but I think cowboysooner actually said it.

it's true. I just like watching puma play more. arent is frustrating with all of his putback misses

all of his misses? he has shot the ball a total of 5 times in 13 conference games (he made 2) so he has missed a total of 3 shots.

he hasn't played much in conference but when he got more minutes earlier in the year, he seemed to miss every point blank shot he got

I don't necessarily disagree but why are we talking about it now, that was literally months ago.
