At this point Kruger gets a D at best.

If two coaches can't win with them, it's clearly a talent issue, no? Who recruited most of this roster? Capel. How is it not mostly Capel's fault? Entirely? Of course not.

It's not a talent issue. We have some players. It's certainly not all on Kruger either. These guys have all played under Capel longer than Kruger. Some of it is just plain old stupidity on the players part too.

So our talent level is so abhorrent that the coach is irrelevant?

How has Kruger been irrelevant? We won a lot of games early. We beat KSU twice, a team that probably goes Dancing, or just misses. We've been in a few other games against talented teams until late. We won a game on the road, something we only did once in the last TWO seasons combined. And we've done that after losing Newell early, and getting absolutely nothing offensively out of Cam/Neal/Blair. So unless you blame those three not being able to hit open shots on Kruger, I don't find much blame. The guys are tired. They are frustrated. And sure, we aren't playing very good ball right now. It takes more than one season, and not even a full season at that, to break bad habits.

Bottom line we're in the midst of yet another monumental late season collapse and a losing record. How is that any better than what Capel did? Wouldn't you say this team has more talent than last year, or was Cade Davis just that good?

on our roster, how many guys do you think could start for the top 3 teams in the league, ku,mizzou and baylor?.....none, talent level is BAD

No doubt Lon's not going to grade out well this year for the simple reason that the team comes out after halftime so flat and uninspired game in and game out. Since Lon is a proven coach, I think we all have to be surprised that he's been unsuccessful with whatever halftime adjustments he needs to make.

Regardless, I'm betting on that changing as early as next season. For that to happen, though, he's going to need a floor leader who just isn't going to accept losing. That means either M'Baye or someone not on campus yet will have to emerge as that team leader...never easy for a newcomer.

We don't seem to have a lot of high basketball IQ players. I'm not sure if it's possible for Kruger to fix that in 10 months.

We've watched some of these guys for 2 or 3 years. They've never been mentally tough. That's another thing that's tough to fix in 10 months.

In short, Boca doesn't know what he's talking about - as usual.

These players aren't going to be as successful as they want to be until they look inside themselves and learn to give 110 effort, every game.

I wouldn't say that "Cade was that good", but guards are WAY more important then forwards in college basketball. And our guards stink. If we had Cade instead of Cam, we'd probably have 3-4 more wins. If we have Cade instead of Cam, AND Newell hadn't left, probably 4-5 more wins.

I asked this over a month ago, and it never got answered.....how many "good" teams are there in the major conferences that don't have a single TRUE shooting guard or wing to bring off the bench? Our back up guards for nearly the entire season have been Blair (a pg) and Neal (really doesn't have a position, but dang sure isn't a guard). We literally have NO true 2/3 on the bench, and our starting 3 has stunk for much of the season. How can you expect more wins?

Agreed. I hate to say this, but we have a really dumb team. And that is a major factor in why we lose games. The basketball IQ just isn't there. Things that guys should have a feel for LONG before college, we don't.

No talent, no depth.

Brought to you by Jeff Capel. Guy ran the program into the ground, gonna take a few years to bring it back to life. OU just has to hope that the rise of Baylor, K-State, and Iowa State hasnt pushed the program down to where this kind of thing is normal. This has been normal for the past 3-4 years, but hopefully long term its not the norm.

Texas Tech lost to A&M 47-38 tonight. No, that's not a typo. They scored 38 freaking points. That same team pounded our a**es just a game ago. You cannot tell me that we have less or equal talent as Texas Tech. So what exactly is going on? Why is the coaching staff immune to criticism for such a pathetic result?

Did you criticize Capel when we scored 46 vs Nebraska and lost by 19 to the perennial conference cellar-dweller in his first season?

The difference is Capel took over a good program, Kruger was handed a big old **** sandwich and he is having to eat it.

You bet your ass I did. But Kruger has been handed essentially the same team and is doing essentially the same thing that Capel did. So I go back to my earlier question: is our talent level really so bad that the coach is irrelevant? Would any coach in America finish 13-17 with this team?

The difference is Kruger was handed this roster and Capel picked it.

Kruger should have given a few players walking papers and found better ones to replace (if possible). But, he has too much class to do that and Joe wouldn't let him anyway.

Capel wasnt a terrible coach as far as X's and O's. He was a terrible evaluator of talent and character thus the limited talent.
