Attendance is Awful

we had "sell outs" in tickets sold for about 7 years in a row under kelvin

The last few tough seasons have taken a serious toll on Sooner Basketball. And it could not have come at a worse time - getting an NBA franchise. I'm just not motivated to go see an OU basketball game. I'd rather watch a great team like the Thunder. I try to get into OU Basketball but inevitably I get quickly disinterested. I dunno..

It would help if the team were better. Not great, but more competitive against good teams.

I have been a season ticket holder for a number of years. I live in Norman but work in OKC. A great deal of the donor tickets are held by people living outside of Norman. Last night I left work at 5PM and with rush hour traffic did not make it home till 6PM. I then changed and made the LN by 6:45PM. I think one of the major problems for OU is that the LN is located in the far south of town as opposed to being in North Norman closer to OKC. If I were to build a new facility I would put it out on North Base where it would be easy to get to from the OKC market.

With respect to the student section I would give those tickets away. Give them to high schools, middle schools in the area, military organizations, AAU club teams, who ever is willing to come.

They gave a $100 MidFirst credit card to the Greek organization with the most students there last night. That winning organization may have had 5 to 8 students there.

I went to a Hogs game on Saturday (I'm from AR) and it was packed and SO loud in there. They were playing LSU, who sucks. I'd attend every game as a student if it were more like that environment, but I don't want to pay even 40 bucks for season tickets if it's boring. I'd rather watch it on TV at my own leisure.

I would put more blame on the older people. I have been to games where the placed was packed. And 95 percent of the people just sat there. I was actually standing up and cheering and people were telling me to sit down. I have also been to games at other schools (i.e. Wichita State and KU) and people stand and cheer for most of the game. Don't blame the students, blame the older people.

It would be silly to move the LNC off campus. You would get even less student support.

I will blame the students without hesitation... If the student section was full and rowdy, you'd see a dramatically different environment and the non student fans would show up just for that... The donors carry the financial burden and the students carry the attendance and environment burden. In this case, the students are most definitely failing...

I remember standing in line for seats for Tubbs last few years and for the Kelvin years while I was in school...

But, I also remember meeting with Kelvin and some of the other coaches with 3 other students and we were actively seeking ways to increase student attendance, so it's been an age-old issue...

Honestly, had we found a way to beat Kansas, we would see a DRAMATIC shift in the attendance... that's a game that would have turned the head of the casual fans...

But, all in all, the crowds are getting better little by little and once the winning starts more consistently, the fans will show up...

For the record, I haven't missed a home game yet this year...
