Austin Grandstaff - Transferring

Sounds like the kid has some unrealistic expectations. This is a quote from his dad:
"He loved Ohio State, he loved his teammates, but it's been kind of a roller coaster with him and minutes," Wes Grandstaff said. "Some games it's 17, 18 minutes. Against UCOnn, he gets beat on the baseline and gets taken out."

I mean, come on... He's a freshman not even 1/3 of the way of the season and he's already complaining about minutes and getting pulled for making a mistake?

Oh man. Wow. Glad we ended up with Christian James and Rashard Odomes.

Welp. Will be no easy route to playing time at OU on the wings with Odomes, James, McGusty and Doolittle.

I don't get kids transferring after only one semester. If you are a freshman and playing, isn't that a really good thing. I trust Kruger's judgment but I am not sure I am all that interested in a kid that quits so quickly. He was getting over 11 minutes a game and played in every game. Isn't the better response to ask the coach what do I need to do to get more minutes?

EL PASO! on Senor Grandstaff.

I don't think we have room (realistically), but I'd take him. Kid is a shooter delux. Love watching guys like him play the game.

Agree it seems early to be talking transfer, but we may not know the whole story.

Correct.

There is playing time to be had here. Want no part of the dad, though, and I'm sure Lon is thinking the same thing. What a buffoon.

Dads are still dads. Wes is a good guy. Of course we've all said things that we wish we hadnt.

OU wanted Austin bad... when he was coming out of HS. I have no idea if theyll be back in the mix or not.

I'd investigate but, if there are strings attached or any other demands or shenanigans, I pass.

He let his kid quit after one damn semester and then cited playing time. He's a helicopter dad of the worst order.

You don't know the half of it.

Austin is a very very good player, but after his transfer to prep school during HS and subsequent return to Rockwall after a semester, failed attempt to transfer to DFW powerhouse Plano West, Rockwall's meddling record his senior year and now the Ohio State departure, I would be hesitant to bring him in. Kid is an uber talented shooter, but I don't know if OU can provide the right role to make him, and most importantly, his father happy. Mr. Grandstaff is not bashful about expressing himself to coaches, sure Matta isn't heartbroken over the departure.

i trust lon .. if he thinks he can help this kid and that this kid can help us then bring him in ..

Interesting how OU tends to "miss out" on some of these problem recruits.

But I also trust Lon. The OU program may be a better fit for this young man. It will be interesting to see where he lands.

Under LK, for sure.
