Austin Grandstaff - Transferring

Meh..... We have Christian James and Kameron McGusty at the smaller wing (2) at his position. Then add Odomes, Doolittle, Buford, and Freeman at the other bigger wing. Grandstaff may be the best shooter of the bunch but there is a lot more to it than shooting. Defense?

I trust in Lon to decide if AG is worth the effort. Competition isn't a bad thing but team chemistry is very important.

Agreed. Team chemistry is vastly underrated when accessing a team's successes or failures. I wouldn't want to see anything or anyone put a dent in what these kids have going on right now. Their performance on and off of the court has been something to behold this season!

LK and his staff have done a great job of evaluating a player's skill set as well as how he would fit in with the rest of the team. Like you, I trust them to continue to make the right decision should AG want to be a Sooner.

Sounds like the kid has some unrealistic expectations. This is a quote from his dad:
"He loved Ohio State, he loved his teammates, but it's been kind of a roller coaster with him and minutes," Wes Grandstaff said. "Some games it's 17, 18 minutes. Against UCOnn, he gets beat on the baseline and gets taken out."

I mean, come on... He's a freshman not even 1/3 of the way of the season and he's already complaining about minutes and getting pulled for making a mistake?

Yeah...absolutely correct.

Plus I bet him and Thomas were talking about transferring to a school together. I bet they are a package deal.

I have very little doubt we won't be in on Grandstaff. We're basically full at the guard positions. Pretty much a non-issue, IMO.

Above, I was just stating that he is likely worth the chance IF we had room. OU recruited him hard the first time. It wasn't a case of OU backing off. And if I remember correctly, the kid committed to OK State before ending up at Ohio State.

Then add Odomes, Doolittle, Buford, and Freeman at the other bigger wing.

Not that it detracts from your point, but Odomes and maybe Doolittle are the only guys guaranteed to get minutes at the three spot. Buford might, in time. I doubt Freeman ever does.

Keep in mind, we've gone small (Odomes at the 4 and Spangler at the 5) more than we've gone big (guy like Buford at the 3) this year.

not sure we are full at guard ..

for 2016 ..

Jordan unless something very strange happens is a starter ..

then you have tons of unproved guys ..

James is a guard for sure Mcgusty is a guard strong is a guard .. that is 4 guys ....

odomes is a 3 but he has work to do on his shot and he is playing lots of 4 right now

Buford is back to playing the 3 but quickness and ball handling are a concern

Doolittle is likely a small ball 4 (and a college prototype one at that) and may never play the 3

freeman will likely never play the 3 at OU ...

so you have 4 legit guards for next year plus odomes that can play 3/4

and the next season that is down to 3 guys (strong will be a senior) plus odomes

we have room for grandstaff ..

If Ford is still in charge , they'll pay Wes the price for both him and Thomas. OSU finished second for Thomas the first time around.

Tech or SMU would be great options. If I was him, the only way I come to the state of Oklahoma is if someone transfers away from OU or the other school changes coaches.

Rothstein is reporting he will be in Norman for the game Saturday

Outstanding news! Austin would be a great get if he wants to be a Sooner.

Would OU have a scholarship for him this (winter 16) semester? If Freeman is getting a scholarship, I think that is 13.

He might be willing to pay his own tuition for a semester and might actually plan on doing that given that he is transferring mid year.

Would it have any I mpact a player like Trae Young? Even if Young is a point guard, or is Young a long shot?

I don't think he's a starter at any top school. High volume shooter, who doesn't do much else.

But if Lon sees a fit, he knows best!

You basing this on his first 10 games of his fr season?

I would think it would only help. They play totally different positions.
