Hey can any of you refresh my memory on what transpired between OU and Austin Meyer from Mustang? It was sort of on-again off-again, as I recall.

I have rooting interest in the Rice Owls, and he's just committed down there.

Terry long A1 aau coach, didnt let him play with them and he got mad, then Edison Prep big man transferred to Mustang. Meyer moved to texas.

Ou and Meyer parted ways because they (long and Meyer) didnt improve to the staffs liking.

CoachTalk, do you think Meyer can be a contributor at Rice ? From the little I've seen of him he seemed eerily similar to a kid from Bixby a few years back ( Sean Young ) who wound up going to Central Arkansas and being a bust. I've heard tall and can run......but can he do anything else and if so, is it just because he is 6 inches taller than every other high school post or will it actually translate to the D1 collegiate level ?

Watched him play a lot. He's a really good athlete especially for his size. Not a great jumper and plays a little soft. I always thought he got "picked on" by HS officials, as they would call him for touch fouls, but would let smaller, stronger opponents rough him up pretty good. With that said, he's not particularly polished at any part of his game. The Mustang team he was on played much of the season with him on the bench due to foul trouble.

Take that for what it's worth.

Thanks Section31, hopefully he can be an impactful player at Rice....it's always nice to see Oklahoma kids do well at the collegiate level even if it's not at OU

Not athletic enough, not skilled enough and not big enough for big12. He's not like Manek who is solid across the board in those areas.
