Magic Waive Four Players; Roster Trimmed to 15

Orlando, FL -- The Orlando Magic have waived center Mickell Gladness, guard Manny Harris, forward Kris Joseph and forward Romero Osby, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced today. The roster now stands at 15 players....

Osby (6-8, 230, 5/7/90) was selected by Orlando in the second round (51st overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft. He played in seven preseason games, averaging 5.7 ppg. and 4.0 rpg. in 15.4 minpg.

You'd think that Rob Hennigan would show a little more commitment to player development, coming from the R.C Buford/Sam Presti tree. Ah well.

I will continue to maintain that whoever picks up and holds on to Osby will have a real Carl Landry on their hands in a couple of years. It's hard enough to find either a hungry player, a physical bull, or a forward who can both face up and grind; Ro is all three and then some.

Best of luck to the young man wherever he lands next.

Those aren't bad numbers for the minutes played. Guess they just didn't have a spot for him on the roster.

Guess keeping Turkoglu on the roster was higher priority...smh

Watching Osby play at OU he didn't really strike you as an NBA player. It's hard to fathom how ridiculously athletic, long & talented NBA players are.

He'll be a solid pro player overseas and make a good living.

Hedo's not on the roster. They have a logjam at the forward position with Harris, Nicholson, O'Quinn, Harkless, Maxiel, and Davis. I love Osby, but Orlando was a long shot since they already have a bunch of young, talented forward they're developing.

I wonder if he'll play in the D league and see if he can't work his way onto a roster.

My argument to that is : Then WHY did they draft him? It doesn't appear they gave Ro' much of a chance. Hopefully, another team gives him a fair shot. Otherwise, he'll make a nice living overseas.

They drafted him because they liked his strengths and in the 2nd round you reach for what you think is the best talent left. They cleared out two roster spots by waiving Hedo and Al Harrington. They still wanted a veteran presence around their younger forwards so they brought in Maxiell. O'Quinn wasn't expected to perform as well in summer league and preseason as he did, so that closed up the other roster spot. They had designs moving Big Baby, but couldn't find a suitor for what they wanted.

Now, Hennigan also mentioned stashing Romero overseas for a couple years while maintaining the rights to him. If he clears waivers the Magic could do just that or they might want Romero to spend time with their d-league team.

Agree he can have a great career overseas!!

I think he can make a roster and I expect him to stick around the states for a while.
