Barry Tramel calling no mas on Travis Ford

When OSU basketball went to two Final Fours in a nine-year span, the program's continued success seemed secure, taking its place among the nation's best programs this side of the blueblooded Dukes and North Carolinas and Indianas.

Has Tramel ever, even once, written such a thing about OU's hoops program? I've never seen it (but then I don't read him on anything like a regular basis).

And I'm sorry, but this is just nonsense:

Truth is, in conference play, Ford's team has fought harder than Lon Kruger's Sooners, who remain in contention for a No. 1 NCAA seed.

There's no way to compare how hard a talented, contending team is playing with an untalented, non-contending one. Teams don't get up for the #9 team in the conference; OU's had a bullseye on its back all season.

OU wouldn't still be in contention for a No. 1 seed if they hadn't played hard. The Sooners are not all that THAT talented. Did OU drop a couple of games they probably shouldn't have? Yes, and so has every single team in the country. Every team OU lost to, save one, is going to be in the NCAA tourney. Not many teams can say that.

Throwing a ridiculous dig at OU like that into a story about oswho is just childish. I'd expect it from Robert Allen, but Tramel is supposed to be a professional.

The way the local media coddles oswho is beyond absurd.

This is in notes after whorn game (Senior Night). I would think if Forte wasn't coming back he would have elected to be honored on Senior Night.

Five Oklahoma State seniors played their final game in Gallagher-Iba Arena. OSU recognized Codey McElroy, Ford Stuen, Chris Olivier, Anthony Allen and Jeff Newberry in a pregame ceremony. The group has combined to play in 175 games for the Cowboys over the last four seasons.

FWIW I was told the announcement would be on Monday assuming they don't win the Big 12 tournament.

Those 2 statements...lol...just wow..so they fought that much harder for a 3-15 conference record..I guess then you should give ford credit right?..I mean in a lost season like this to truly motivate this team to a staggering 3 conference wins..what coaching acumen!!!!
Sure as hell better then a laid back sooner team who coasted to a 24-6 record spending a few weeks at #1 winning the diamond head classic, having an unbeaten non conference slate which included games with Villanova, Hawaii, Wisconsin, creighton and Memphis among others, and possibly s national POY candidate..
Maybe..just maybe all of the poke players were sleeping on sofas inside GIA and we just didn't know about it..
You said it sky...beyond absurd..way beyond absurd

This would be a terrible decision, financially.

They will have a lot more firepower back next year, with Forte and Evans. That will be one of the best guard duo's in the league next year. In the post, they are bringing in some 4 star guys. On the wing, they have pretty solid role players like Shine and Carroll. Depending on what happens with Davon Dillard, they could have another top 100 guy on the wing, but he has a ton of baggage.

Travis Ford sucks, but he has slipped into some NCAA Tournaments and at OSU, that is really your primary goal. Just get into the NCAA Tournament and be competitive in the league. Something like a top 5 or 6 finish. That's as good as you can do at OSU, and I think Ford can do that.

Give him a chance to do this next year, and I guarantee they won't flop again.

Wrong on Almost all accounts. Their duo would not be one of the best. Shine and carrol are not very good. The osu standard is not to backdoor their way into ncaas..

Absolute joke and an embarrassing statement.. tramel is horrible

This article says that the WVU game was basically the deadline for him to decide if he was going to redshirt.

The medical hardship rule is:
- A player can't play in more than 30% of a team's regular season games (9 games) and be eligible for a "medical hardship". It's not technically a redshirt. Forte only played in 3 regular season games. Naz Long at ISU played in 8 games and is applying for a "medical" and will get it.
- He has to have extensive medical documentation for his injury.
- The fine point in the rule is none of those games he played in can be in the 2nd half of the season. The WVU game was OSU's 15th game. If he played after that he no longer had on option for a medical.

Forte can easily get this year back by applying. If he graduates this spring he can even get the year back and play immediately at another D1 school if he chooses.

Newspapers are a dying form of media.....By the time you read it is is old news.

Knowledge dropped. This was the only print info on his possible redshirt. the only other info I had was the Bedlam announcers saying he had no interest in redshirting, that he wanted to graduate with his class of guys. But not being a part of Senior night seems to hint that he might be coming back.

Forte will be back. They could land a coach that could come in and get back to winning bc their not losing anyone.
