Basketball games at McCasland Fieldhouse next season?

I worked in the fieldhouse for two years (2000 & 2001) while I was in school. I have seen crowds of 500-1000 for volleyball games and wrestling matches. The parking in the area was more than enough for those crowds because all of the parking (for normal university activities) that exists for people during the day is widely available at night.

I have no idea what the capacity would be for a basketball game but I am confident that decent parking would not be an issue.

The status quo isn't working. We couldn't even get decent crowds for non-conference games when Blake Griffin was here.

I say spice it up a little, play 3-5 games (Including exhibitions) in the fieldhouse.

Someone will have to explain to me how 4,500 people in the LNC generates more revenue than 4,500 in McCasland.

2-3 games removed from the season ticket list would make a very small (negative) monetary difference.

Seriously?

Tickets sold. It's not difficult. You can't sell tickets to seats you don't have. So every game you have at the smaller place, you only have 4,500 tickets. Even if you only have 4,500 people at the same game at LNC, you have MANY more ticket sales most games.

You might get students at those games since they could walk over.
In the late 50s more people showed up for dual wrestling meets than many of the BB games.
You might sell more season ticket packages if you took the lousy games out
and brought them over to old filed house.
Maybe some of the Women's games also. They play a few pancakes early also.

I don't know how many season ticket holders there are, but would there be enough seat to accomodate all in the old field house? If not, who gets left off. And what's the point of moving the game there is season ticket holders have all the seats cause of it's small capacity?

you make all the McCasland games General Admission.

I'm kind of ambivalent. I have watched a lot of basketball games in the old field house and it's not magical. It's no GIA. I sat court side and it's close but the upper deck wasn't great. Some high schools have nicer arenas.

I do see the point to being close to campus corner.

I would think it would need a lot of renovation and don't think they could justify the cost for as few games as they would play there. JMHO.

Some students and marketing had a meeting near the end of school and this topic was brought up. If there is going to be any basketball event at the fieldhouse next season, it is most likely, as of early May, going to be a combined exhibition/practice/"hoops jam" for men's and women's basketball.
