Better or worse or about what you thought?

There is a Hair's breadth of difference between UT and OU this year. We will be tied or one game apart. At this point each of the major rankings has us less than 5 places apart: AP, coaches, RPI, Ken Pom, sagarin, and ESPN's BPI. The team o top is going to come down to which team matches up better with the top tier of conference teams.

HAVE TO ADMIT THAT WHEN I LOOKED AT THE BIG 12 AND MADE MY 10-8 PREDICTION.I UNDERESTIMATED THE CONFERENCE. STILL,IN RETROSPECT i LIKE THE PICK.THERE ARE ONLY TWO TEAMS I SEE THAT ARE BETTER THAN US ,THE BIG BLUE CHICKENS AND THE PUKES.HAVING SAID THAT,i AM XERTAIN WE CAN SPLIT WITH THE PUKES BECAUSE WE HAVE SUPERIOR COACHING. WISH WE HAD ANOTHER 6'8- 6'9 GUY TO HELP OUT SPANGLER AND BENNETT

KU, ISU, OSU, Baylor.
Who else should be better than us to the point that we need some breaks to finish ahead of them?

I don't think you can ever put a Scott Drew coached team definitively ahead of a Lon Kruger team. The coaching differential more than makes up for talent differential.

The other 3, I agree with you.

Will Iowa St fade in the end or be there? I haven't watched or followed them enough to know. Seems like they'll be a solid Hoiberg-Julis mid 90s team over a championship Willowbee team

I disagree. Drew isn't the greatest coach by any means but the guy has been to 2 elite 8's in 4 years and has also won the NIT. They have beaten Colorado and Kentucky already. Not to mention, the last 2 times that Baylor has entered conference play with 1 or 0 losses...they made it to the Elite 8 that year and it looks like they are going to be heading into conference play again with only 1 loss. Those 2 years they had 6 and 5 conference losses. This is a veteran Baylor team. Their beatable but clearly...ISU, Baylor, KU and OSU should be chocked in ahead of us.

Then again, he's also missed the NCAA tournament a couple of times when he had multiple future NBA players on his team... last year being the latest example.

So I'm not sure if he should get credit for "winning the NIT" when there is no excuse for that team to NOT be in the NCAA Tournament.

I think this Iowa State team is the real deal. Very solid on both ends of the floor.

It would not surprise me in the least if they won the Big 12 this year.

Well this team didn't lose anyone from last years team that was an NBA player. The team last year had lost Acy, Jones and Miller. And even though last years team should have been in the NCAA tournament, they semi-made up for it by winning the NIT.

Agreed. Hoiberg is an example of what a good coach can do with players who were not high-profile recruits. Drew is an example of a decent coach who continues to underachieve with the level of recruits he brings in.

Drew has the opportunity to prove he's more than a great recruiter with a deep run in the tourney this year. Will this Baylor team help him shake that tag? Guess we'll have the answer to that question a couple of months from now.

While I agree that Hoiberg is a very good coach, let's not act as if he's been bringing in a bunch of no-names.

The two freshmen he brought in this year (Thomas and Morris) were both 4-star guys who were top 20 at their positions and have been contributing this year.

Niang was also a 4-star guy who was top 20 at his position.

He hasn't gotten any "elite" recruits, but the guys he's bringing in are not stiffs by any stretch.

My "high-profile" is the same as your "elite" recruits. By that, I mean players who were top 50 recruits everybody in the country wanted. I know that Austin and Gathers were top 50 (Austin was top 5). Several other Baylor players were at least top 100. I can't think of a season in years when the Bears didn't sign one of the best recruiting classes in the country. That's a credit to Drew. As I said, he's a great recruiter.

My point is that Hoiberg has done more with less than Drew to this point in his career. He may fold like a cheap tent in the months ahead. But if I had to pick between the two for long term success, I would take Hoiberg.

Gotcha.

Agreed.

I don't know how you can say Hoiberg has done more with less when Drew has taken 2 teams to the Elite 8 and has also won the NIT. Drew also resurrected a program from death.

Also:
Royce White - top 25
Chris Allen - Top 50
Anthony Booker - Top 50
Korie Lucious - Top 100
Georges Niang - Top 75
Matt Thomas - Top 75
Monte Morris - Top 100

Not to mention:
DeAndre Kane came straight in averaging 15ppg
Will Clyburn averaged 17.2ppg and then sat out a year before playing
Chris Babb averaged 9ppg before sitting out a year.

Hoiberg isn't just coaching good, but he's recruiting good. Lucious help lead Mich St. to the final 4. But Drew has still out performed Hoiberg.

If you spent half as much time in defending the team you claim to support, posters here might actually believe you're an OU fan. You're all over any mention of OSU, KU and Baylor, but rarely say anything good about the Sooners. Even when you do, you're quick to throw in a backhanded positive to dilute its impact.

Why it that? Care to explain why you can't seem to find anything good to say about an 11-1 team of young men who represent the university with integrity and a concerted effort to see our basketball program rise to the top again?

Maybe it's time for you to come clean and admit you're a troll. What is your favorite team? Is it the Pokes, the Bears or the Jayhawks? I'll be happy to point you to your favorite team's web site if you'll tell me which school you actually support. You're not an OU fan, that's for sure.

By the way, I brought Sooner04's thread back to the first page for your convenience. He's still waiting for the answer to his questions.

A loser? Wrong. I have been successful at everything I've tried, from sports to business to life in general. A hypocrite? Wrong again. No one here has to ask where I stand on anything. I'm not always right. But, when I'm not, I'm man enough to admit it. You're right, I did ban you several months ago. I'm also the one who brought you back.

Now, listen carefully, because I'm only going to say this once. I'm letting you off of the hook for calling me names this time. Do it again and you're out of here. No passing go, no collecting $200...just, GONE! The next time it will be for good.

On a positive note, I'm glad you finally said something nice about Coach Kruger and this year's team. That's the thing that bothered me. I couldn't think of a single reason why you continued to be mostly critical of the way this team has performed the entire season. So what if OU hasn't played the toughest schedule on the planet so far? Blame that on Joe C. He's the one who schedules the games. Then again, it's not like he has a crystal ball to see two to three years or more into the future. How could he possibly know that Seton Hall, Alabama and ATM were not as good as in years past? George Mason and Tulsa haven't been bad most years either. He knew we might face MSU and he was right. Add Idaho, plus a couple of mid-majors like UTA and North Texas, and that's not a bad schedule most seasons.

If you want to stay here, I'm fine with that. No one is asking you to suppress your feelings, even when they're negative. Heck, I agree with some of the things you say. But there is no way anyone can watch this team play and not come away with a positive thought or two. If you had those thoughts before, why wait until now to express them? You have been more negative about Coach Kruger and the players he has brought in the past three years than most of the Poke fans on this board. Is it any wonder why some here questioned your motives or where your loyalties lie? Think about that for a while and maybe you'll know why a few true blood OU fans like me called you out.

That's all I have to say. Carry on.

Here you go again..calling me out over and over and I call you out once and you threaten me again! You bump threads of me. I leave you alone and continue to do it. I don't care for you. If you don't want me to call you out or call you any names then either block me or stop calling me out b/c you started this. YOU DID. You think you can just continue to call me out and get away with it. And you're wrong. I'm tired of it. I'm not your friend and I don't care about your success..but you apparently think I should. Talk basketball with me and I will talk basketball with you. If you want to look up my previous comments fine...I'm not going to waste my time looking up yours or calling you out on any statements you've made b/c I just don't care that much.

OU lost to Michigan State by 11 on a neutral floor. Texas lost to the Spartans by 14 at home. So, using your logic, OU must be at least three points better than UT. :D

Seriously, I agree there are no automatic Ws in the Big 12 this season, especially on the road. TCU and Tech appear to be the weakest of the lot. But even those two games will not be easy. Any team in the conference is capable of beating the teams at the top on their home floor. The Big 12 is going to be a dog fight this year.

You were right, we are three points better than texas
