Big news!

This team is a shell of itself from early Jan .
We won't make it past teh sweet 16 with this current production .

Saying that they could completely turn it around in three weeks ..... But we are easily playing our worst basketball of the season .

That was a horrible ..... HORRIBLE ..... osu team and we had the lead for 5 seconds in the first half ... At home .this with a career game by a starter .

No way to spin the way this team is playing ( if we are talking about final fours) but posters talking about cutting down nets have their heads in the sand.

This team can't even put together a consistent half , much less make a deep run ( MUTIPLE games )right now . Sure things can change and they do have the talent to win it all ..... But they are plying some average basketball currently

You say this just 3 days removed from a double-digit win, on the road, against a top-10 team :facepalm:facepalm

Some of you are judges more than fans, and while you're entitled, of course, I don't envy you. The day I don't want to celebrate a 22-point over a heated rival, you can put me in the ground, breathing or not.

I came to this board about 30 minutes after last night's game. There were three threads with new posts, and only one -- the game thread -- had anything to do with the win. That's mindboggling to me.

The board wasn't much busier a few days back after our 14-point road win over a top ten team, so the "big deal -- we should have won" trope is meaningless. Anyone who is so jaded that he can't enjoy a 22-point win over a hated in-state rival, even after a ragged first half, who is more motivated by losses than wins -- and clearly many fans here are -- is more a critic than a fan, reduced to offering a thumbs up or thumbs down and missing out on a lot of fun along the way.

I think it's ok to be critical of a team win or lose. I am my son's biggest fan (He is 7 and wrestles), but I also am his biggest critic. Those who are not giving it up for this team, the way they fought back and played so well in the 2nd half are crazy. The first half offensively was terrible, but the defense was really good. Then the 2nd half the offense came around, and the defense picked it up even more.

I get so sick of threads ripping the fans. Especially this thread in particular, which some posters seem to want to start after every win.

There are some trolls who come here just to stir stuff up after a loss and that's easy to take care of: just ban them.., But for the most part the overwhelming majority are just fans. There are always tons of positive threads after a win, along with irrational expectations, to go along with the overly negative that comes after a loss. That's what happens when people are fans: they're emotionally invested in the outcome, and they don't always have an objective point of view.

We beat a terrible team. This board isn't anymore quiet than the fans were last night at the game. It was not a loud environment.

Beating a team with 3 wins in conference isn't going to get people screaming from the rooftops.

Yep. I enjoyed the win, but I'm taking it in stride. I expected to win and win big over a bad team. Candidly, I don't even really view osu as that much of a rival as they have become irrelevant over the last several seasons.

Having said that, I'm fired up for the Texas game on Saturday as that game has more meaning and consequences to us moving forward.

Well said. The lecturing on "how to be a good and proper fan" gets really old.

I am not afraid to post criticisms. I have pointed out all season that we have three issues.

1) We are at best inconsistent inside on both scoring and rebounding.

2) We do not have enough quality depth.

3) We have problems stopping quality quick guards like Evens and Mason of KU.

But to post nothing but negatives tells be that the poster is either a wanabe coach, a fan of another team or just some poor soul that sees the world from a negative perspective.

The thing about high standards is bogus. Those so called standards are not even met by the best pro teams.

This is a good team, probably one of the five or six best teams in OU history. Our fate in the post season will depend on a lot of things. Health, matchups, who is hot and who is not, etc.

OSU came out very hot and did a nice job of exploiting our switches on defense. We appear to have made some nice defensive adjustments at halftime.

But however we do have a very good team and I choose to enjoy it rather than pick at every negative thing I can find.

message boards are used for venting. People need to vent after losses.

If you are being honest, nobody should have been OK with the way we were playing prior to the WV game. We hadn't put two halves of bball together in a long time. Even last night we only played great in the second half.

Stop looking at the negative threads as insults and look at them as venting and conerns

This..

We don't have a problem with negativity on the board. Anyone who thinks so is just soft and probably doesn't belong in sports.

There weren't a lot of posts likely because it was a Wednesday game against a crappy team, albeit a rival, but really not a current rival because we've been dominating them as of late

Good news, 1234, Spring Practice is just around the corner!

Largest victory over O-State since 1988. That's what I'm going to focus on. That and the really good second half we played. That and a senior stepping up in the first half when the rest of the team allowed the Aggies' slow pace to dictate matters.

It's also the worst osu team since 88. Not to mention one of Ou's best .

Again you can spin a pillow fight with a horrible team all you want but ou is just not playing consistent basketball right now .

We had three starters scoreless in the first half .

These players OWN goals were a conference title and making a final four . I'm not holding them to any higher standards then the team itself set for themselves at the start of the season .

They already ( without a miracle) have failed to accomplish the first goal and without a major turnaround they aren't going to accomplish the second goal either .

Criticism is not a bad thing for this team ( media , fans , or coaches) if they want to accomplish their goals .

Bingo. No one's saying the team is above criticism, but if you only criticize, it's going to wear on others and they're eventually going to say something.

Go out to dinner with friends and critique everything from how cold the water is to how soft the butter is to whether the enchiladas are as good as your mom's to the prices and by the way, the server wasn't as good tonight as last time, and you will eventually stop receiving dinner invites. Even as you insist that you really do like the restaurant but you're just calling it as you see it.

your analogy doesn't fit.. a sports forum is for analyzing the team and players

If it was a dinner between restaurant critics it would fit.

Product of success. Many don't care when you simply take care of business. Any large fan base of a successful team deals with this. It's very predictable and lame.

It's also possible that some people don't want to be personally attacked for having posted their opinions, so they don't show up. It's one thing to refute an opinion with a fact-based premise but the personal attacks are also predictable and lame.

I agree that this team isn't playing anywhere near the level they were in January. The verdict is out on Buddy. Teams will try to shut him down and force others to step up. Fortunately Spangler was the the one to step up last night. One area we are struggling with is we have too many mental breakdowns on defense. Every game there are opposing guards getting to the rim rather easily and more often than not, uncontested. Where is the inside help? Giving up offensive rebounds continues to be a problem as well. We did get better as the game went along, but something that still needs a lot of work. It was just a matter of time before we started to take over last night, we simply have better players. Newberry had a great game for them. He's a D-1 athlete playing at a D-1 school, chances were good that someone from their team was going to step up. The major disappointment I feel from the team this year (and every year we put out a good team) is we were and are good enough to have won the conference. However year after year we can always look back at the schedule and see the games we lost that we definitely should have won. But we didn't, life will go on and so will this team. We as fans can be critical all we want, but what it comes down to is the biggest goal is still in reach and we need to be behind the team and help them achieve that goal!

Does anyone else, other than me, think Christian James looks like a PG. He isn't very big to be a 2 guard. He appears 6'2"ish. He reminds me of cam Payne for the Thunder. Does Woodard move back to the point? If Bolden commits, he will start at the 5. Just thinking next year could be:
1. James/Strong
2.Woodard/Granstaff/Mcgusty
3. Odomes/Doolittle
3.5 Buford (3 or 4, but will start)
4. Lattin/Freeman
5. AK/Mcnease

I think woodard moves back to the point.

If James looks too small to be a 2 guard, why would you leave woodard there?

I was thinking more traditional, but I hear you. I think James has the ideal size of a PG. Woodard is short anywhere, 5'10" at best.

I come to this board as an OU fan, not a basketball critic.

Hes not 5'10. He's about my height and I'm exactly 6'0.[/QUOTE]

You've stood next to him?
