Big news!

I come to this board as an OU fan, not a basketball critic.

And I come to the board to talk intelligently about OU basketball, both good and bad.

It's been an awesome season with much more good than bad, but I'm not going to dance around the areas of concern either.

It's also the worst osu team since 88. Not to mention one of Ou's best .

Again you can spin a pillow fight with a horrible team all you want but ou is just not playing consistent basketball right now .

We had three starters scoreless in the first half .

These players OWN goals were a conference title and making a final four . I'm not holding them to any higher standards then the team itself set for themselves at the start of the season .

They already ( without a miracle) have failed to accomplish the first goal and without a major turnaround they aren't going to accomplish the second goal either .

Criticism is not a bad thing for this team ( media , fans , or coaches) if they want to accomplish their goals .

You're right, criticism is not a bad thing unless that's pretty much all you do. If the posters on this board took a vote for an "All Negative" team, you would be in the top three. Maybe you don't realize how much you complain. Negative people don't take a look at themselves in the mirror too often. I think that may be because they're afraid of what they might see.

Here's the part that has me baffled. This OU team is 22-5 and ranked #3 in the country right now. That's the lowest we have been ranked in weeks. Have we been playing our best lately? No. But I don't see that as a reason to complain as much as you do.

Lighten up and enjoy what has been a great season so far. The best in years I might add. You'll be happier if you do. ;)

More like Wooden Award winner!

I would ban him for that comment. I have no use for people like 1234 or whatever his name is.

They're the team's goals. Stop trying to live vicariously through them.

Hes not 5'10. He's about my height and I'm exactly 6'0.

You've stood next to him?[/QUOTE]

Yes. Cuz i was Curious too. He's atleast 5'11 and something. Seemed taller than when i passed Mayfield on campus. That dudes shorter then you'd expect

Does anyone else, other than me, think Christian James looks like a PG. He isn't very big to be a 2 guard. He appears 6'2"ish. He reminds me of cam Payne for the Thunder. Does Woodard move back to the point? If Bolden commits, he will start at the 5. Just thinking next year could be:
1. James/Strong
2.Woodard/Granstaff/Mcgusty
3. Odomes/Doolittle
3.5 Buford (3 or 4, but will start)
4. Lattin/Freeman
5. AK/Mcnease
Woodard is a little over 5'11" and has super hops
C James is close to 6'5" and not a point guard. He is taller than Buddy and also has great hops.

You probably would because you are the biggest homer on this board . You should have your own board called puppies , rainbows , and ou basketball ..... Where everything is peachy , we always beat Kansas and basketball is teh biggest sport on campus .

You can't handle criticism because you are so consumed with this program you passed jock sniffer status a decade ago .

It's alright to brag on a team even in a loss and but also point out negatives in a win. That's called be a normal fan. The other side are fanatics. They live in fantasy land with Crimson and cream ponies .
I think it's safe to safe who is who

I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that between OU, the Redskins, the Thunder, and the Cinicnnati Reds I am probably well over 10K message board posts since I joined my first one in 1999. Over those 16+ years there are some "message board culture" things that are very evident--- one of them is that the boards are ALWAYS busier after losses than wins. Always. The only exception might be when a team wins something huge-- like when the Reds made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years in 2010 or when the Thunder won the West in 2012. You see a barrage of celebratory posts in those situations. But in general, losses always generate more traffic than wins. It isn't an ouhoops thing I can promise you that.

It's just human nature.

"I hate losing more than I love winning."

"Misery loves company."

"Had to get it off my chest."

Three cliches we see in the sports world all the time, but all can explain why losing generates more chatter than winning. I am guilty as well. I'm not a huge venter and I try to always remain civil and reasonable even when frustrated, but my inclination is ABSOLUTELY to post more after a disappointment than a success.

When we win, I'm content. I'm happy. "Yes!" Or "Woo hoo!" is kind of boring to read so I generally just keep that to myself. When we lose (or struggle) I'm more analytical. And yes, sometimes it feels good to share in your sadness or frustration with others. I don't think it's "negative" as much as it is simply human reality.

I've been on this board since its inception, and only recently went over 1000 posts. As a result, I don't post much win or lose. However, I think a lot of folks were expecting more consistency out of this very experienced team. In last night's game, 3 starters had 0 points at halftime against a weak team decimated by injuries. Most of us know that we'll go home early in March with a first-half effort like that. As for me, I'm encouraged by our defensive play as of late. I think there is a correlation between playing very strong defense and a decreased offensive shooting percentage.

It's human nature for a fan base which had the #1 team in the country for 3 weeks to be frustrated that we can't get a second player on the team to be a CONSISTENT offensive threat...scoring 20 points one game and 2 the next can test one's patience. Remember the game we played at Baylor? I think we could use a game like that against Texas this Saturday. That will wake up the fans. :)

+1 Very sound post.

A thread about how some are better fans than others? I am astonished!

The most sad thing, and it really is quite pathetic, is you would have a most difficult time finding other threads, outside of game threads, which have more posts than the two threads recently created about how some fans just don't quite meet the muster.
