Big Trouble

I mean, I'm still going to the games next year. But for real guys, we might not make it to double digits in wins. It's time to accept this. Now I hope I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, no one will be happier then me. But lets be realistic....until I see other guys signing up, we are in some serious ****.

Amen...I'll watch every freaking game (Direct TV, Sooner Sports.com, etc) as I basically have every season since I left Norman in 1989.

Just because I'm not convinced that I have nothing to worry about regarding the state of the program doesn't mean I won't support whomever is out there next season!

This is absolutley a correct statement. It is laughable at how some are reacting to exactly what they wanted a month or so ago.

At that time they wanted to bench everyone and start over, and this was before Warren got hurt and the season truly fell apart. Well, you wanted it, you got it.

Why worry? You have no control over what happens or what will happen.

Good lord, let's not aggregate all of the complaints against the program over the past 3 months and attribute them to every poster who now feels uneasy about the current situation.

I can speak for only this "doom and gloomer" by saying that I'm glad whatever cancer(s) that were a part of our roster are now apparently gone.

I'm not glad that we have been unable to gain commitments from some of our secondary options in recruiting.

I'm not glad that the uncertainty around the program has convinced some of those secondary options to not even waste their time with a visit to Norman.

I'm not convinced the program is falling apart, but I am convinced that we're in very poor shape for next season as I type this. Do you disagree?

YOU used ALL of those in that post (with the exception of not recruiting AAs) as reasons for your negativity. I didn't make that up. If you didn't MEAN that, then don't include it in your post.

So, if you DO use them AND mean to use them as examples, then wouldn't those be positives? I'm just trying to follow your logic.

Look, I don't know what's gonna happen. I don't know if Tiny is coming back. But using past NCAA examples (Troy Smith, Jarret-USC, etc), I'd assume taking $3K isn't a death penalty violation. I believe TMG and WW were causing some issues with this team and we'll possibly be better off w/o them - couldn't be much worse. Allen never played anyway. Willis never played anyway. We have two highly thought of frosh coming in. How many do we need?

I'm not really asking you to answer those questions, but just showing you why the frustration exists between the two parties (positive v. negative). Doesn't make you wrong, but I'm not sure it makes US wrong either.

Here's what you said...
The problem with most of what you said is that MOST of the "doom and gloomers" (and some looking at the program with favor) CALLED for some of this to happen (lose players, clean house, quit recruiting McD AAs, etc)

Here's what I said...
However, the reality of what has happened (player departures, lack of depth on the roster forcing us to depend on some VERY un-dependable guys, embarrassing defensive efforts) are the responsibility of the coach....period.

I'm not sure how you took my observation that we've had excessive player departures, that the lack of depth on our roster due to those departures made us depend on some very un-dependable guys , and that our defensive effort for most of the season was embarrassing and turned it into "lose players, clean house, quit recruiting McD AA's, etc".

In other words, I didn't MEAN it because I didn't SAY it.

What Bomar did is considered much worse by the NCAA, and people are acting like $3,000 was $30,000. Not happy that something occurred, but nobody here as any clue as to the evidence or what is or is not being examined by the NCAA. I'm excited about the new guys we have coming in, and am hopeful that we can get a solid late signing period point guard and post player or two.

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that everyone is concentrating on whether or not Keith got $3,000. It seems to me to be more important who gave it to him (if he got it) and why. Several shades of gray that completely change the equation: coach, booster, fan of OU, previous acquaintance of Keith, long time family friend, one of his God-parents, his twin brother. (I know he doesn't have a twin brother but it doesn't change my point.) Also it is important when (if he got it,) though that is not as important as who it came from (if he got it.)

The original report stated that a financial advisor to professional athletes (and an FSU alum) wired money into a joint account shared by Tiny and his mom the summer before Tiny arrived at OU. I do not see how people are making that leap that an agent paid Tiny and that Coach O was involved.

The guy in question is licensed with the NFLPA, doesn't that make him an agent?

Not if he is licensed as a financial advisor, instead of an agent. There is a very distinct difference and the NCAA treats them very differently.

Actually, in the next two paragraphs you did make mention about settling for lower tier players (ie. not Burger boys)...

EDIT: BTW, my original quote of you was more an indictment of the attitude towards those TYPES of comments rather than the comment you actually made. Therefore, I apologize for taking your ENTIRE post out of context, but I stand by the initial gist of the post. This is like a political discussion - everyone thinks they are right and fails to see OR even want to allow another point of view.

I can admit that last season was a major disappointment and that Coach Capel needs to do a better job going forward. I think that he would say THE EXACT SAME THING. What will be funny is that if Capel gets things turned around and gets more offers that he listens to, many of the same folks *****ing will be ripping him about loyalty. Jeff Capel is a coaching prodigy, he's done more before the age of 35 than many of these guys (Billy G. comes to mind) have done in their careers; give the guy a chance to right the ship for crying out loud.

All I can go by is what is being reported and has been seen by posters on here, Tiny is going to class, is hanging out with the team and attending various OU related sporting events...sorry, but that does not sound like a guy that is on his way out.

Hate to be the one to do this as I know posting Tiny's twitter is going to open up a can of worms, but I got it from Jake Trotter so the Oklahoman is on it anyway and it's going to be posted here sooner or later. At least as of this afternoon it doesn't look like he's made up his mind:

edit: yes, as suspected, Trotter has posted this on newsok.com

no new info there, but credit where due

Fair enough. If I am Capel I ban twitter, for him and everyone else.

Love to hear about wearing all red on draft night and see that c's are being replace with k's. WTF? I know there was a pretty big thread aboput twitter and social enviornments, but this kid went to a private HS and is now at OU with a chance to make millions...though gang stuff was something you left behind as soon as possible.
