Big12 Semis OU - Baylor

When the other team is hitting "lights out", it's hard to guard that. If anybody shoots that good, they will beat U-Conn, too. The girls never gave up, and fought to the end. Proud of them...Let's move on to the NCAA tournament and give it our all.....:OU-logo:

What kind of impact will 6'9" center, Mulkey from Texas, have on the OU program next year?

Well, I expect that Nancy M will block or alter a lot of shots. I also expect her physical counterparts to muscle her inside at every opportunity, trying to get her to pick up fouls, and subsequently put her on the bench.
Nancy will need to keep it uppermost in her mind to keep her hands straight up, and to nto try to get into a pushing match with girls like Mompremier, because she'll lose every one of those encounters.

If Sherri is smart, she won't try too much to get a lot of offense out of Nancy, at least the first year or so.

Nancy would help herself immensely if she could bulk up a bit with the help of the strength coach.... but I am not expecting much in that regard...

Nancy will be different. I don't know how to compare the situations.

Kay Kay works low on the blocks, and her shot can be blocked by someone tall.

Nancy is two inches taller than Brown. I have read that she has developed a sky hook. With the length of her arms, that is probably let go at about nine feet off the floor if she doesn't jump. Can Brown block that? But, mostly, I suspect that they will be used differently.

Vivi may continue to be used like they did Kay Kay and Vivi. I expect Nancy to operate as much at the high post as at the low post, perhaps more. That would force them to bring out a post to guard her. She can hit a shot from the free throw line. She, unlike Vivi and Kay Kay, has learned not to put the ball on the floor (usually). If the ball is always at eight or nine feet in the air, it is difficult to steal or block. I could envision a lot of Nancy at the high post with EJ, Treece, or Maddie taking a smaller defender inside.

I don't think you can work out with weights enough to out-physical a Brown or Mompremier. Your center of gravity is higher than theirs. You will be pushed. Learn to emphasize the fact that you have been pushed and shoot free throws. But, you can reach over them with arms that probably extend about five to six inches above their hands.

Brown from Baylor will eat her alive for the first two years!

Why do I get the feeling that you would have said the same thing when we recruited Courtney. Then, when she was a freshman, we beat the defending national champions three times in one year, with Sophia still there.

The only real player loss that Baylor has to worry about is Johnson. But, they add Cox, Chou, and Landrum. Overall, I expect Baylor will be better next year. I think we will be better too but I'm afraid we are going to lose ground to the Bears.

Losing Niya may set Baylor back. They have talent, and they have talent coming in. The talent coming in adds more to the talent that they have, and they can only play five at a time. It's kind of like saying that they have a lot of doors, mufflers, and steering wheels. But, their engine is graduating. Got an engine anywhere?

I'm not sure if SC can bring in what it takes these days to win at the highest level. I haven't watched recruiting that much lately but from what I seen OU is not a top 10 program as they once were.

One of my greatest disappointments was seeing KK foul out of the last game she is likely to ever play in the state of Oklahoma. But once the officials walked onto the court (and we saw who they were) it was a foregone conclusion - no matter what happened on the court. That was even more obvious when they called a foul within a few seconds of the games opening tip.

KK has given a lot to our team and has always been positive and generous with everyone. Playing at OU was a lifelong dream for her. Thank you KK for all the great moments you have given us. Make the NCAA tournament one to remember.

I appreciate what you are saying, Syb. But if she could hit that shot (or any shot) with much consistency she would have averaged quite a bit more in High School.

We will just have to wait and see. With Big-12 officiating like it is, I expect she will foul out of a substantial percentage of her games next year. Certain opposing teams' centers will be allowed to maul her without being called.

You must not forget when being concerned about officials picking on OU that they do so because of Sherri's piety and Kim's decency and discreetness.;)

Won't set them back as much as u think. Jones played pg her whole career up until this year. They will have jones and Wallace playing pg then adding a 6'2" shooter who is as skilled as a pg, they could be better than they were this year. Oh yeah let's not forget they have arguably the number 1 kid in the 2016 class.

The way Baylor played and shot in the 1st quarter was truly insane. They could beat UCONN playing that way. Since the first quarter, the game has been very close.

Remember: this is the first time Baylor has beaten OU in the tournament.

They couldn't beat UConn. First of all they wouldn't be shooting that way against them. Second UConn can score to. Third Geno would eat Mulkey up. No Contest.
