Bijan State champ

4 inches most notably.

So then a presumably average athlete can overcome not having a skill that translates as upper level.

The argument would be Reaves shooting, but he's shot poorly at Oklahoma and is still A) The best player on the team, B) One of the top players in the Big12 and C) Arguably one of the top players in the country.

Bijan is every bit the dribbler and passer that Reaves is.

Many players from the high school level are marginalized when they face tougher competition for many contend the game speeds up from both a physical and mental perspective. Lets give the guy a chance at the next level before we shower him with affirmations.

I was hoping you'd chime in. You of the "Phipps will definitely contribute this year, he's more athletic than he looks, and Harkless redshirts no matter what."

Harkless ended up starting, and Phipps scored 5 points on the season after 12/19.

I've seen him. He nearly played by HS for the state championship this year, so I was following things closely. I've also seen his offer list.

Wrong on Phipps. He’s frustrated but that happens. I still think there is a role for him.

But I’ll default to harkless wasn’t getting a waiver. That’s straight from the source.

Here we go... offer list. Harkless clearly one our best. Check his list. Check reaves list. Manek list.

Do you see Phipps being a representable defender to thus play meaningful minutes? Seems like we have a team where defense is more of a priority because of a lack of offensive firepower and if that were the case it does not bode well for him.

I agree there is a role for him. But it's probably limited, and it was never going to be there his freshman year (unless we were short on bodies). He struggled with the speed of the game.

You said Harkless was redshirting with or without a waiver. I only know/remember this b/c I wasn't sure what the plan was for him, so in my thought process for the roster, I went with what you said about him.

Just b/c some kids with poor offer lists, or moderate athleticism/skills, or whatever pan out, doesn't mean we should count on it. We've had far more recruits like that in recent years NOT pan out.

I'm not saying Cortes can't turn into something useful or even good. I'm just saying he isn't going to have much of an impact next year, and he'll need to grow into whatever kind of player he is going to end up being. And if he ends up being our best player in a couple of years, I don't think that bodes well for our team. Kind of like Reaves this year. Here we sit with what would have been a .500 record in the Big 12 and an 8/9 seed.

Did you really put my name in the quote in lower case intentionally?

Didn't touch it. But when you type a response where the entire message is capitalized (i.e. TMI), it automatically changes it to lower case.

You mean the guys that led us to a 7th place finish?

Yeah it sucks when your best player is only first team all conference. The fact our record wasn’t better was clearly his fault.

I completely agree that many HS kids get marginalized at the college level. If I'm showering him with affirmations that is not my intent. I'm simply pointing out that when I watch Bijan and Reaves play, their games mimic each other pretty closely stylistically, skill wise and athletically both in HS and Reaves at OU. Yes Reaves has matured in the game at the college level and there's no guarantee Bijan will, but there's no reason to label him a minimal contributor either. Is he going to be Reaves? I wouldn't go that far, but could he be a Woodard or a Harmon calibur....I think he could.

I'm also reading into WT's comment a little bit as well. He does say in years 1 or maybe 2, but it feels like he's leaning more towards a below average overall career projection for Bijan. Again, that's me reading into it, and partly because of the comparison to Phipps. I like Phipps, but right now to me he's an overall decent career roll player.

lol, I didn't know that. I thought you were trying to be disrespectful of my OUHoops message board handle. :)

And wt and abd and other Lon haters think that’s a failure. Hard to play as a freshmen at any level.

You're pre-complaining about something that hasn't even happened yet and may not happen. Hilarious.

No. Look at every recruit the last 10 years. Anything less than all conf is a failure... and in AR case. He’s still sucks to you guys.

Lol not true. In fact, ABD and I were praising Gibson in a different thread just a couple of days ago.

Question: does everyone have faults/flaws?

Answer: no doubt.

Conclusion: It's all fair game to discuss it as opposed to some of it.
