Bijan State champ

No. Look at every recruit the last 10 years. Anything less than all conf is a failure... and in AR case. He’s still sucks to you guys.

i think a pretty good case can be made in the 2 OSU, TX, KU games...that Austin refusing to pass to very good teammates, who had played in each and every game a lot of tough, good basketball and themselves beat some ranked teams without him.....and made a top 25 basketball team....cost the Oklahoma Sooners a good tournament seed.

instead we are an 8/9 death sentence or great glory to beat an undefeated Gonzaga.

i respect your posts CoachT....I do.

Austin is a very good college basketball player......but, to say the guy is outside criticism is absurd. he cost us a chance to win at least two of those games with selfish play. i don't see how it can be denied.

Congrats to Bijan! He has had a tremendous high school career. I haven’t watched him enough but will trust those who have. Hoping he exceeds expectations relative to his ranking and offer sheet. I really hope we don’t have to rely on him being a big time contributor next year, though. We need to get an elite transfer IMO.

100% not saying Austin is above faults. He is and deserves plenty of blame.

But my point is Bijan can hoop. Make take a little time but as soon as he doesn’t get all big 12 next year. He’ll be labeled as a flop. I still believe Phipps can be a really good big 12 player but we’ll see if that happens.

Way too early to judge Phipps.... he plays guard on a team with:

Austin Reaves (redshirt senior)
Elijah Harkless (junior with multiple years starting experience)
Umoja Gibson (junior with 3 years starting experience)
Devion Harmon (all big 12 player)
Alondes Williams (senior)

OU has very good guards... Phipps would have to be REALLY good to get on the floor... Like, all-conference good... And that is very rare for an incoming freshman.

Which player has been unfairly labelled a flop? I mean, I labelled Lattin and McNeace flops but I had plenty of evidence to back it up. I don't think Reaves is a flop although he has driven me nuts plenty of times.

Lattin as a “flop” is a garbage take

No it isn’t. He barely developed at all the whole time he was at OU. Lately it seems that 90% of your posts are just you telling people that what they posted is garbage.

He actually made a significant development from his freshman to sophomore year. Unfortunately, he never got better (or worse) after that. However, he is the all-time shot-block leader in OU history. I'm not sure the gain here by trashing former players, especially one who holds a school record. That's probably why your post was referred to as "garbage".

I’m not trashing him. It is what it is. He just never lived up to what most people thought his potential was.

That's certainly a fair point. Sometimes, it is all in the wording. As a moderator on a couple different boards through the years, let's just say that players occasionally visit or even post on them, and their family and friends definitely post on them. When Jeff Capel was head coach, his mother posted on another message board (true story). As such, I always try to be careful with the wording of my posts regarding (especially) current players as well as past ones.

Man. All that experience just to add up to a 15-10 record and a 7th place Big 12 finish.

After watching Phipps play, does anyone actually believe that Phipps is a Big 12 caliber athlete? He will always struggle on defense as he looks slow laterally. He doesn't possess any size to make up for his lack of athleticism. Can you actually say that a kid like him helps you win the conference?

Yes. Be he’s 18 years old. Kids get better. Development takes time.

I have no idea yet, maybe he won’t be any good, maybe he will. But there are plenty of good basketball players who are neither tall nor overly athletic. Since this is an OU board, I’ll name Tim Heskett and Kelley Newton as two examples. They helped us win a lot of games and compete quite well in the conference. It’s certainly fair to say that Phipps needs to make shots at a high level to be a key player for us in the future.

I hope you are right, but the kid is a one trick pony and that is just shooting. He can't handle the ball. Heskett and Newton were 25 years ago which lends me to think that he has a low ceiling and a small opportunity to actually be a player that can help win conference titles. No amount of "hard work" will give this kid God-given athleticism. He might have a few memorable moments around his senior year, but for the most part he is a four year scholarship eater. When he plays against superior athletes, he will struggle to get a good shot off. You don't beat Kansas consistently with kids like him. I hate Kansas.

with out question yes

I'm anxious to see Bijan in Norman. I'm a big proponent of recruiting locally. Kingfisher, Oklahoma and Dallas, Texas beat the hell out of Bella Vista Prep (wherever the hell that is) or the NBA Global Academy.

Any player who is capable of scoring 42 points in the 6A state championship game can’t possibly be totally void of skills and athleticism. Nothing about that makes sense to me.

For three of the four years Phil Forte and Keiton Page made me look silly for thinking they were too small and not athletic enough to compete in the Big 12, I secretly wished they were wearing an OU uniform. I think that’s what Trey Phipps is going to do to you.

Any player who can make threes consistently, can play in the Big 12. I predicted Trey would contribute on some level this season. Obviously, I was wrong, but I still believe he’s going to show everyone why he was the state tournament MVP his senior season at Booker T. Maybe I’ll be wrong again. But, I’m not going to throw in the towel on an instate kid who played and worked hard his freshman season on a team loaded with guards. He gets a pass from me.
