Pretty sure BJE's son just committed to play football at OU. I know there are some big BJE fans around here so I thought I would share.

He did committ. Tay Evans is his name. LB

I really liked Bobby Joe. Very smooth for a guy his size with all the shots. Sad deal knee injury robbed a potentially great career.

Tay Evans may still have growth potential.

In the early 2000s, we got to see another of the many NCAA "flaws". Kelvin got ripped for his first full recruiting class because his freshmen did not graduate. The reality is, BOTH his freshmen graduated. One (Michael Cotton) became a doctor after getting his undergraduate at BC. Evans needed 6 years instead of 5 due to his horrific knee injuries and all the rehab he needed.

As for his son, he has to have growth potential if he wants to be a linebacker. He only weighs 200 pounds at this time. Assuming he grows into his body, a LB commit is something we need as badly as a 2014 top-150 hoops signee.

Bobby Joe was good, despite the bum knees. We can only speculate about how great he could have been if he had been healthy.

Top four or five? Maybe. Definitely in the top ten players to ever suit up at OU...at least IMO.

Good news about his son! Too bad he didn't choose to follow in Dad's footsteps and play basketball.

No offense to BJE, but I'm thinking I might have a bit of a different top 10 list. Would like to have seen what he'd have done sans the knees though.

Not sure about top 10, but who knows how good he could have been if he hadnt gotten hurt. He had tons of talent and seemed like a really good dude. I'm excited his son will be coming to OU. He has younger son who is a TE prospect that is getting some early looks.

:clap

count me amongst the BJE fans.

Thanks for posting this! Hope Tay has enough success to compensate for the premature ending to his fathers career.

Not sure if BJE would have been a top 10 player at OU had he stayed healthy, but I know some of the teams he was on would have advanced deep into the tourney (much deeper than they did).

I agree. I think Bobby Joe Evans could have been one of the best but he simply didn't get the chance. When you consider guys like Wayman (12 years NBA), Blake Griffin (curently in NBA as an All-Star), Alvin Adams (13 years in NBA, All-Star, jersey retired by Pheonix), Eduardo Najerra (12 years NBA), Stacey King (6 yeas NBA), Mookie Blaylock (12 years NBA, All-Star), Harvey Grant (11 years NBA), Garfiel Heard (11 years NBA), Clifford Ray (10 years NBA), Don Siddle (4 years in NBA/ABA), Anthony Bowie (7 to 8 seasons in the NBA), Brent Price (10 years NBA), Terry Stotts (9 years NBA) it is difficult for me to put Bobby Joe in the top ten.

This doesn't even consider guys that were great in college but did not have NBA success (or much NBA success) like Ryan Minor, Ricky Grace, Jakcie Jones, Aaron McGhee, Nolan Johnson, Corey Brewer, Nate Erdman, Osby, Jeff Webster, Chew Kennedy, Tim McCallister, Kevin Bookout, Ebi Ere, Q white, Hollis Price, Al Beal, etc. etc.

Ok, I'll concede that top ten was a bit of a stretch. I should have given more thought to what is obviously a rather lengthy list of former OU greats before making that statement.

Then again, we don't really know how good BJE could have been if he had injury free throughout his career. He was pretty darned good playing on bad wheels.

BJE's younger son (Bobby Jr I believe) 2015 recruit, just committed to OU as well. Tight end.

TE that is quickly growing into an OT. Kid should be a good one.
