Sweet 16 baby, whooooooooo!

:ez-laugh:

sweet 16 ? im thinking final 4. i just need to redo my old sign with our new lineup.

I know this isn't the point of the thread but I am not sure why so many seem to put Ross ahead of Clark when putting together hypothetical lineups with both as Sooners. Cameron is consistently rated higher than Ross and is a better athlete which is something any lineup we need more. Ross is a good shooter and more of a traditional 2 but he's not the player overall that Cameron is.

I agree, and the only reason I had Ross as a potential starter in this overly ridiculous scenario is that I don't know if Cam can play the 2.

Here is what I know. The so called people "close to the program" around here don't have a clue about what's going on. The writers for the newspapers in Oklahoma don;t have a clue what's going on.

The people who are all worked up are weak fans who aggies have been able to sway with their nonsense about Blake carrying Capel, etc.

Capel took over a complete bag of garbage and had OU in the elite 8 in a couple years. We are in way better shape than when he took over. A guy like Terrence Ross would not have considered visiting OU 4 years ago. Any NBA caliber player stayed away from OU because it was not a place when talent was enhanced. The total opposite is true now.

The recent slid was the last effects of the probation. I laugh at OU fans so weak they are influenced by trolls like Cheno or aggies who are loving this small blip.

lol @ OSU being in better shape than OU, because they have 4 3 star unranked players coming in to join a team that woin nothing? ha ha ha

Pass a dose of that stuff my way. I want what you guys have been sipping on! :ez-laugh:

The Capel has proven nothing without Blake Griffin contingency on here owes much to the aggies. Cheno ain't so bad.

Overall, I agree with the more optimistic viewpoints of many on here, Capel is solid, sticking around and will work through this.

The vast improvement made by Longar, AJ and TG under Capel tell you a lot about his coaching ability. Not to mention Blake's jump from freshman to sophmore season.

I'm no insider; have never claimed to be. But I've been around a little longer than many of the hand-wringing Sooner fans that frequent this and other message boards.

I concur with your assessment, Mr. B; Capel IS solid, Joe C. knows it, and even the most ardent of the doomsday prophets will be forced to acknowledge it one day in the not-too-distant future.

FYI -- I would guess Longar, TG, and Blake were all coached by Cline since he is the "bigs" coach. I'm sure Capel did have some influence on their improvement...probably more off the court than on, though.

If I were to play devils advocate, I could also say this past season speaks to his coaching ability, too. I don't know of many good coaches who go 13-18 and end the year on a 9 game losing streak in their 4th year at a university.

Lots of confidence here and virtually nothing has changed since Friday night when we thought Capel's time was done at OU.

He definitely wasn't solid this past year, but that doesn't mean he won't be in the future. The big question is how long until he becomes a solid coach and is OU going to wait that long? If he has another season next year like this last, and odds are that he will, then I'd say no.

Of course, I could be wrong and hope I am. I sure didn't foresee the disaster that was this past season, so maybe next year we will be 18-13 (and I'll be $100 richer, right Mr B!).

Didn't Capel bring in Blake Griffin? And if I'm not mistaken, it was well-known that Blake Griffin was not going to come to OU if Sampson was still the coach.

My bad. Terribly sorry for looking at the positive side of things. Capel has obviously shown signs of being a good coach and a bad coach. I think last year had as much to do with inexperience as bad coaching. An approach that works with a self-motivated player, like Blake, isn't going to work with guys like Willie, TMG and Tiny. Now, Capel knows that. I think last year will make him a better coach. I just hope it makes enough of a difference next year, so that he can stick around long term.

Sampson has nothing to do with this argument. He left for another coaching job. However, Blake would probably have come to OU with a more established coach. But that is only an opinion and we will never know.

That to me says more about the people on here than Jeff Capel...people had him at Clemson, Wake Forest or interviewing who knows where and we'd just "lost" two JUCO recruits (maybe?). What amazes me is that on some level, Capel has given everyone what they wanted over the course of the off-season and they are still pissed:

1. Ray Willis = Gone;

2. Orlando Allen = Gone;

3. Willie Warren = Gone;

4. TMG = Gone;

5. Coach O = Gone;

6. JUCO's = has brought in Aziz and Thompson, has visits pending with several others; and

7. HS Kids = Still in on Ross, Jones, Majok and who knows who else.

Not sure what else the guy is supposed to be doing right now? But several of the more vocal fans on here should be extremely happy with what Capel has done to this point. Can't undo a crap season, but can take positive steps going forward...steps that many on here were advocating happen since the moment the season went to crap.

Personally, I would like something to be said about the state of the program so as to squelch some of the speculation; however, if Jeff has been told to get out, recruit hard and not respond to the media, then who am I to question Boren or Castiglione [the guys that would be making that decision].

I still think Capel has a shot at being an excellent basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma, and unless/until some of these rumors are proven to be reality (specifically, the "payment" to Gallon), I'd like to see fans as loyal to their coach as they expect their coach to be to the program when [INSERT SCHOOL] comes asking for an interview after a good season.

Yes this offseason has just been fantastic... couldn't have gone any better.:D

Given everything what they wanted this off season and still pissed ? I mean I dont know how serious that remark was but I have to assume its tongue in cheek.

Nobody wanted TMG to leave, they wanted him to be a better team player and learn to play defense. While there are serious differences of opinion on WW in the end with a talent like that it will be harder to say that losing him will make you better (assuming his attitude changes for the better). The rest of the bunch who knows but losing kids like Willis continually hurts your program, it doesnt improve it (especially once you start getting into graduation rates and losing scholarships as a result).

I also dont remember anyone wanting OU to be on TMZ and the tabloids regarding NCAA investigations and possible sanctions for players taking money. Nor having a coach being let go because he most likely is in the middle of the crap. If people suddenly act like its coming together its because 1- maybe its not going to end up as bad as it looked 2- we re gullible enough as hardcore, bleeding crimson and cream fans, to eventually always hope for the best cause thats just who we are.

apologies...you must not have been on the message board Friday night when all the rumors were swirling that had very little to do with him finding another job. These were all posted by respectable posters and not just some willy-nilly rumor monger.
