Booker to...

I guess he really wanted to be "the man". Sad to see him go as you always benefit having shooters on your team. I'm sure he will do well there.

According to the Jelon Hornbeak thread, Booker will be first team all-conference in no time.

Funny how a player's value to the team goes up after he leaves, isn't it? ;)

Ada, who would you rather have had, Jelon or Walker? I think Jelon was our best back up PG option. Wish he had stayed if only for that. Also think we would have had a better season.

Jelon wasn't a pg either. Had he stayed, Cousins still likely would have gotten most of the pg minutes. And Jelon didn't want to play the role he was to have. Everybody seems to forget that part.

This is probably correct. However, Hornbeak would have played some PG especially when Cousins was having one of his not-so-great nights. Hornbeak would have helped the Sooners quite a bit more than Walker did imo, but your are right, he didn't want that role...

Based on what we know about both players now, Jelon would be my choice as well.

What I'm saying is that no one really knows how much better Hornbeak could have been if he had stayed? Same for Booker. They were both good role players. Problem is, Hornbeak wanted to be a starter so he decided to leave to test the water somewhere else. Booker left because he had no choice.

I wished Jelon well two years ago, and I wish Frank all of the best now. OU has already moved on with the players we've got coming in.

What do you mean by this, Ada?

I've mentioned it as well in the past. So I'll take a shot.

Booker was the outcast of the team, similar to jelon. Just didn't fit here. Skipping class, failing grades, Lon moves those guys along.

He missed several practices due to not able to miss anymore class.

Those guys won't and don't last here.

Plus he wasn't that good...

Thanks, Coach.

Nonsense. If he'd kept his behavioral and academic house in order, Coach wouldn't have run him off. He demonstrated that he was plenty good enough to contribute; had he been in good standing, he'd likely have upped his game his junior season and then again his senior year.

You can only go off what he has shown so far. He averaged 14 minutes and 5 points a game the past two seasons. Considering OU will be a deeper team next season his days were numbered.

Disagree, Jelon is a much better pg than cousins. There's really not a point guard skill cousins is better at than Jelon. If Jelon would have accepted his role he's the perfect 1st guard off the bench.

He was hampered by injuries for much of last season. We had several games down the stretch that we might not have won without his contributions.

If Kruger was just looking to get rid of someone who wasn't "that good," both Walker and Cole would be gone before Booker. What's more, we still have a scholarship to give next season, so Booker being "not that good" doesn't explain his departure. It must have to do with off-the-court stuff.

It's funny, but when Ada said that players suddenly become better in the eyes of some fans when they transfer out, I was thinking that I more often find the opposite to be true: Many fans rush to denigrate players when it's announced they're leaving.

Never said that's why Kruger ran him off. Just saying he wasn't that good and won't be missed.

I agree with Soop. Booker has limited skill and has been recruited over. While I believe had Booker been a great citizen and student Lon would have let him stay, I think the fact that there were other issues made it easier. Booker's minutes were going to go down eventually(sooner than later), and Lon has a scholly he can sign a much better player with. Not really hard to see.
