Bruce Pearl done.

I would guess he agreed to having his salary cut and his contract voided when in agreement to keep his job, now that the season is over and the AD is making a 180 on that decision it will be interesting to see if this goes to court. Hard to believe Pearl will walk away with nothing.

Early gossip I saw had Tennessee interested in the Wichita State coach.

To even consider Bruce Pearl is ridiculous, and I would be shocked if Joe C. is.

i agree, i doubt Joe C considers him.

But, if i was Joe C, i would interview and possibly (probably) hire him.

A program that has been in hot water just as much as any in the country (OU) over the last 5 years would be stupid to hire a coach that knowingly broke the rules--and subsequently lied about breaking them--at his previous institution.

My opinion: I think USC's football sanctions were augmented because USC hired Kiffin who had been under NCAA investigation at his previous gig (ironically, at Tennessee). I think this would be the same concept if OU did the same.

Like you said, I'd be astonished if Joe C. gave Pearl a look.

It was a BBQ, not payouts. Whatever punishment follows him and adds to whatever we get from Gallon if anything, is worth it in my mind for Bruce Pearl. Even more so if he brings his Tennesse recruits. We have a team with losing records for two years and one recruit. What do we really have to lose?

This is fortunate, very fortunate.

I'll agree to disagree. Any coach that broke the rules to the point where he was fired, shouldn't get looked at by OU... For reasons mentioned in my previous post.

heck, even if it kept us out of the Big-12 tourney would that be such a loss? "oh no...we don't get to play that extra meaningless game at the end of the season"

Baylor had players KILLING one another and coaches LYING ABOUT MURDER CASES and you don't see appreciable damage to their program over it now.

We can/will easily survive whatever the NCAA dishes out (if they even dish out anything - that's not set in stone for a show cause hearing).

HIRE BRUCE PEARL ASAP BEFORE THE OTHERS RUSH IN TO TAKE HIM

Question, when talking about what would happen to OU in the future, are you postulating or do you know this to be fact? And I think other factors should be accounted for as well (donors, PR, tighter leash the NCAA has on OU in the future, etc). It just doesn't look good for a program marred with NCAA problems to hire one of the current poster-children of NCAA problems. It looks terrible, actually.

And I see your point about Baylor, but I think that's an anomaly more than anything. Few coaches, if any, can recruit as great as Drew can.

I see your general point, I just think OU can--and should--hire a very good coach without the baggage that Pearl would bring.
 
There are too many good options available to OU. They dont NEED a guy who was just fired for NCAA violations....

I really think Buzz Williams, Johnny Jones, or Terry Evans would all get the program back on track.
