Man oh man - the wait is killing me. I saw Chad Ford (yes I know the criticisms) didn't have in his first round. What are the other mock drafts saying?

None of the mock's have Buddy going in the first round. The consensus is in the 40-45 range, so mid-second round.

He has to decide what to do by next Monday, so we will all know soon.

the 26th is the deadline ... so he has until sunday at midnight

I stand corrected. We still should hear something in the next 2-3 days. I wonder what he's waiting on? Maybe he's just struggling with the decision, or seeing who else might pull the trigger and declare. It seems he's locked into the mid-second round no matter what happens.

He could also be weighing his options overseas. If he has an agent or two in his ear, which is highly likely, I'm sure they're pointing to the route Emmanuel Mudiay is taking to the NBA draft. Never mind that there is very little correlation in the two players.

The suspense is killing me, too. I just hope Buddy makes the right decision for himself in the end, no matter what he decides to do.

that route to the draft doesn't work ..... he can't play overseas and then go into the draft next year ..

As long as the contract he signs is for a single year I believe he could enter next season. Yes that is what Mudiay did.

He's old enough that he probably wouldn't be drafted next year if he signed for example a 3 year deal overseas, but even that is a possibility. Teams draft guys that they have to wait on all the time.

Can overseas players be bought out by NBA teams? I would assume so but don't ever remember hearing chatter about it when guys like Rubio were drafted ahead of schedule.

Buddy is draft eligible. If an NBA team takes him in the 2nd round, they own his rights. If he goes overseas for 5 years. That NBA team gets him.

Mudiay didnt/couldnt go to college. He had to wait the one year required by the NBA. Now he is draft eligible.

I'm not an expert, but I don't see why Buddy couldn't go overseas. Yes, if somebody drafted him this year, he would belong to that NBA team, but if he went undrafted, it would work.

I'd see it playing out like this. Buddy pulls his name out of the NBA draft. The draft happens. Buddy decides he'd rather go play in Europe than for OU, and signs a one year deal to play in Europe, and is available in the next NBA draft.

Would that not work?

Isn't that what Mudiay is doing or is he taking a different route to the draft?

to be draft eligible .. you have to be 1 year out of high school (USA rule) or 19 and declare for the draft (every where outside the US)

Correct. If undrafted. He'd be free to sign with whomever.

I suppose you could pull out of draft then go pro overseas, but unlikely... Even a small chance to get drafted 1st round is worth the risk.

He can enter without an agent and pull his name out before June 15th as well.

Sounds like they need to clear up the deadline and just make it a hard deadline. Make the withdrawal date and entry deadline the same day.

nope deadline to go back to OU was april 15th ..

As I understand things that is a NCAA rule on when players need to declare but it has no real application because nothing happens if they don't declare by that date. In other words, the real deadline is the NBA deadline. I read an article about this recently because I was wondering when Buddy had to make a decision.

I sure hope he stays.

that is the ncaa deadline .. for a declared player without an agent to leave the draft and come back to college .. a player can still leave by the nba deadline .. but can't declare and come back to school after the ncaa deadline ..
