Buford

From what I heard from a guy close to the staff. Buford is directly behind Spangler and right now there are no mins to be had there. Not in the doghouse or hurt or attitude problems.

now my own opinion. Spangler is playing great basketball, buford is a 4 not a 3, With manyang healthy, and latting and Jamuni playing... there just isnt enough minutes right now.
Odomes played some of the 4 vs Wiscy because they didnt have much size.

Part of being a bigtime program, sometimes you sit.

The only thing wrong with your theory is that Dante played 23 minutes in the Memphis game, on the road no less. His minutes dropped to 12 against McNeese State, and dropped again to 4 against ICW. In view of his performance in the Memphis game, one would expect his minutes to go up, not down. He finished with 5 points, 8 boards, 2 blocks, 1 steal and 1 assist in that game.

I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill here. I'm just saying nothing about the decline in Dante's minutes after the Memphis game makes sense to me.

When OU plays good teams like Memphis and Wisconsin, Spanglers mpg go up to 37mpg. Buford is not going to play the Center position with McNease, AK, and Lattin on this squad. I don't think Buford is a Small Forward yet so his minutes are going to be limited with Spangler getting so many minutes. I don't think he's in trouble..I just think this season, he's going to be used here and there.

He's just a freshman and his time to shine will be with Spangler not on the team in the future.

You missed my point. Buford played more minutes (23) against Memphis than any team OU has played so far. His minutes decreased to 12 and 4 against two teams (McNeese State and ICW) that were not nearly as good as Memphis.

If the reverse had been true, I would agree that he didn't get as many minutes when OU faced the best team of the three (Memphis) in what turned out to be a tough road game. One would think that all of our back ups would get more minutes against inferior teams. But, for some reason Buford's minutes went down, not up. I have no idea why?

because he is one of the best players on our team .. and we want to win games ..

in all big games expect spangler buddy Jordan and cousins to get 30+ min

That doesn't explain the Incarnate Word game.

Also, we were clearly in control of Wisconsin even after they made their little run. No reason for Spangler to play that many minutes.

He has worn down the past two years by February.

To me, there is something going on with Buford. Either its his attitude, his work ethic, academic, breaking team rules. Something is not right. He looked pretty darn good out there against Memphis playing against very talented and athletic players.

He did play more minutes but that was also the 1st game. He's been on the team as long or longer than any other player on our bench minus Cole. They felt comfortable going with him in that game but as more games are being played and more practices continue to happen, the newer faces are earning more playing time. As they have earned more playing time, the available minutes at the 4 are decreasing.

Its easier to play Buford in the first game of the season b/c he had been practicing with the team for over a year now but the other guys are getting comfortable and earning minutes.

I just think they had more trust in him going into that game then they had with all the other true freshmen. Now they are starting to see that they have some guys who can play other than him so his minutes have shrunk.

Heard an interview with CLK yesterday, where coach said they are looking at playing Buford more at the 3 going forward.

It's where he belongs, hopefully it means good news on Manyang and his ability to play 20+ minutes a night.

CLK stated that Manyang's biggest issue right now is conditioning, coach says he tires very quickly.

Man. Buford looks too slow and out of shape right now to play the 3 to me...

Haven't watched the game yet, did Buford play the 3 tonight? Also forgot to mention earlier that in the same interview CLK stated that Odomes was going to start playing some 4 to create mismatches, any evidence of that tonight?

Yea he played the three. He was in there with Spangler and McNease for a streach

Yep all odomes min were at the 4. And all of Buford's were at the 3

I paid special close attention to Buford when he was in the game. While he looked confident on the offensive end, he doesn't look like he's quick enough to defend at the 3. Of course, I was dead-set against Cousins and Woodard switching positions, so what do I know.

He plays defense too tall. He needs to get lower to check the perimeter players

Somebody else (me) on this board said Buford really didn't belong at the 3 spot.

I just hope Buford is just in a slump and will snap out of it. I was really counting on him. Obviously we haven't needed him yet, but based on all the feedback from last season I was counting on him to pick up some of the slack next year when we lose Heild, Cousins, and Spangler.

We do need him
We would have lost to Memphis without him!!!
