Calvin Newell

I don't remember anyone rating Newell so highly. In the context of last season, his departure was viewed as a big loss by many, and it was. We'll never know for sure what he would have done when the tougher part of the schedule rolled around, but we were left with so little depth without him that there's really no doubt he would have been a valuable piece to the puzzle last season.

That doesn't make him all-world, but I really don't think anyone ever said he was.

Well he makes his debut tonight, so we'll see. I think some of you are letting your bitterness about him leaving skew your opinions

Bitterness??? About what??? A kid who had done little to nothing left the team for what he thought was a better opportunity. Some of us just don't care. I wish the kid the best, but come on......

He has been gone for awhile, along with several others. He did not want to be here, and obviously OUr coach wasn't what he was looking for. Oh well. I believe we have replaced him nicely with young guards who will be fine with experience.

Nothing against a 20 something yr old kid at all. Decisions like his are made at major universities daily. I just never understood why so many were high on him. He dribbled with one hand, pushed off defenders when his dominant hand was pressured, and was an average volume shooter.

IMO, nothing to get upset about. We were bad last yr, and we would have been bad with Newell........

We could use him here. It's his first game in a year. Knee jerk much?

And you are basing the "we could use him here" on 5 games, against weak competition, last year. Knee jerk much?

He doesn't really fit what LK wants to do. He doesn't handle the ball well. He isn't big. He isn't really a pg. He doesn't defend well. And he is a volume shooter. I don't see how he'd fit in on this team.

Im not knee jerking at all. Those five games were a year ago. I've had plenty of time to form my opinion.

And my opinion is that Newell has shown he can fill it up more so than any other guard we have. I wasn't as high on him as others here but he gave us a guard that took fearlessly take it to the rack. When's the last time we had a guy like that?

We only won 15 games last year...We could have used him last year and this year as well. But he's gone, along with Gallon and TMG who we could have used as well.

I'm not arguing we couldn't have used him last year. We had no guards on the bench, of course we could have used him. We could have used Alex Spaulding last year.

I just don't see who he takes minutes from this year.

One game does wash away every previous performance where he wasn't efficient.

Unless it is about a current OU player. Then one game means they are all conference and all other games have no meaning

I'm well aware of what he has done in his two games.

My comment was more of a statement that nobody said he wouldn't have any good games, but simply, at the end of the year, either wouldn't be averaging 17 points, or would be averaging a very inefficient 17 points.

Geez...He gets 17 in a game...M'Baye gets 0. Both won their games.

Newell is 2-0 as a UCF Knight. Thats really the only stat that matters

Adam Morrison has an NBA championship. Kevin Durant has 0. That's really the only stat that matters.

Thought you were honestly asking & I had a spare minute to link it up. No biggie off my back either way, CN is a memory (& a faint one at that) to me.

No problem. Didn't mean for my post to sound like an attack.

The OU coaching staff wanted Calvin Newell to stay on the OU team. Calvin Newell wanted to leave for his own reasons.

In the long run, both parties will be better off. If a player really does not want to be here, it is best that the player moves on.

In today's college basketball game, it happens all the time. More than 300 Division 1 players transferred last season. Over the past three seasons, OU has received three inbound transfers .. Osby, M'Baye, and Spangler.
