I'd say that makes it more important for the left, since 2 of those 3 are left-leaning, correct?

Dems would be in trouble with the right was able to swap another liberal judge for a conservative one.

Very much so.

If Trump wins and puts 3 on the bench, you would have

Conservative
Kavanaugh
Gorsuch
Roberts
Clarence Thomas replacement
RBG Relacement
Breyer replacement
Samuel Alito

Liberal
Kagan
Sotamayor

Tulsa is a bad example because hardly anyone lives, works, etc down there compared to major cities. The cities that operate pro sports have tons of people down there all the time.

And if the players, league, city, etc are pushing people to register, to vote, etc I could see it having an increase.

It will favor democrats, for sure. Don't you think?

Nobody works in downtown Tulsa? lol

You do realize you have to vote where you are registered. Most people that work in DT Houston aren't going to be voting in DT Houston.

It will favor democrats...otherwise, they wouldn't be for this

The more people that vote, the better.

I said not compared to major cities.

Also, this is what was said about voting in Houston in the Rockets arena.

"Any registered voter in Harris County will be able to vote at the arena for early voting Oct. 13-30 and on election day Nov. 3. Voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m."

That completely changes how voting has been done for decades, and invites a number of problems long-term. I'm not saying there aren't positives, especially for the dems, but there are reasons it's been done differently for years and years and years. And it's not some right-wing conspiracy either, before you suggest that.

It doesn't change anything but the location. It's voting in-person absentee which I've been doing for years. You show up at a pre-determined location and fill out an absentee ballot and you're done.

Ehhhhh, not sure I entirely agree with that... This is opening up a huge public arena, for registered voters, non-registered voters, etc to show up, fill out absentee ballots, register to vote, and cast their votes over the month of October AND on Election Day.

I understand you could have done an absentee ballot like this before, but this feels a little different than that because its a polling station. Normally absentee votes aren't done at a polling station, are they?

Yeah you're right. I should clarify that it doesn't change the fundamentals of our election system. It does definitely make it easier for people to register and vote which is a good thing.

The more I think about this, the bigger deal I think it could be.

In person voting FOR A MONTH (basically), in downtown areas of:
Houston
Milwaukee
Miami
Detroit
Orlando
Dallas
Philly
Etc

Am I overthinking this? If all registered voters in the entire county can do what they can do in Houston at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Little Caesers Arena in Detroit, The Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, etc.... That has to move the needle a bit.

Looks like a similar setup is ready to go in Cleveland, using the Cavs arena. Unlike Houston though, its now open for absentee voting for October and its now the entire city that can vote there. You have to live in certain precincts to vote at the arena.

Cleveland, OH— The City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and the Board of Elections in partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers have announced that Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will serve as a polling location for the 2020 General Election on Tuesday, November 3rd. Per the local designated voting location rules, only registered voters residing in precincts I, L and Q in Cleveland’s Ward 3 will be able to cast their in-person ballot at the FieldHouse. Click here for a precinct locator.

Ok, I checked, this is going to happen in every NBA city. Just like the Houston model. The Heat in Miami have their application in, The Amway Center in Orlando has applied.... Process is going through the system in Detroit, Philadelphia, Ohio, etc.

American Airlines Center in Dallas has been approved for election day voting, but not for early voting like in Houston. But, like in Houston, anyone registered in the area can vote at the arena.

This is a big deal.

I’m really having a hard time understanding why

1.) The NBA players, pretty much unanimously, are now going to use all their ability to bring attention to this. Look at all the attention Kaepernick created, now the NBA is going to bring a lot of attention to voting and social justice as well.

2.) These arenas all exist in swing states.... They are going to create safe places to vote in downtown, urban areas in big cities. Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Michigan. The NBA, NFL, MLB, etc all operate in these states. They are going to mobilize to get more people registered, and to get more people to vote. Every vote matters in a swing state.

3.) Apparently, some of these arenas are going to be taking votes from October 13th all the way to the election.

4.) The league, the players, the media, etc are going to be getting people to vote. The NFL, MLB, etc will possibly fall in line.

It's absolutely going to generate more voting. How much more, I don't know. But any increased voting is not good news for Republicans, especially in big cities.

Explain to me why it will bring more to vote. Are there not places to vote downtown?
