Chad Ford's Latest Mock Draft

Buddy at 7 to the Pelicans. This is going to be interesting, because I think Buddy is the kind of player who fits on a good team, and will struggle on a bad team where they need him to carry more of the load, but it looks like he's going to be drafted high enough that it will be a bad team.

I think the Pelicans would be a great fit. Playing with a guy who will draw a ton of attention (Davis) and a pg & sf who will be the primary and secondary ball handlers (Holiday & Evans). Also plenty of minutes to go around for the 2 guard since I believe they are done with Gordon.

Wish there was a way the Thunder could move up and get him. He would be a great fit.

Pelicans aren't a bad fit, mainly because they should be way better than they are. It's an absolute joke that they'll be drafting high in the lottery this year, and just throws egg on their faces for firing Monty Williams.

Draft is being labeled "weak". Buddy Love has done all the heavy lifting on the court, but a weak draft class is a huge help in how high he goes

Is cousins on any boards?

If Buddy is a top 10 pick, he is going to have a huge payday. Last year's number 10 pick, Justice Winslow, got guaranteed over $5 million for 2 years and in all likelihood $11.2 million over 4 years.

NBA first round picks have their salaries controlled by the CBA (collective bargaining agreement). They have a set dollar amount for each draft position, and teams can pay only 80% minimum or 120% maximum of that amount.....and most of the time they pay that 120%. The first 2 years of that agreement are guaranteed to the player, and years 3 and 4 are a team option. After 4 years a player can sign a 3-5 year extension, but can't declare for free agency until after 7 seasons with a team. Of course, a team can cut them any time after 2 years.

Second round draft picks don't have any guarantees, but for some of the really good players drafted in the 2nd round can make out because they can declare for free agency sooner. Deandre Jordan is a good example because he was a second round pick. The circus with Dallas last year was all about his second free agency deal. He's made 10's of million dollars more than he would have made as a first round pick.

Me too a shooting guard that can shoot and play defense...it's almost a novel concept in the NBA.

Getting drafted that high would be excellent for buddy as the team will be committing to him more than 15ish.

WW blew it coming back after 1st year and then reversed not staying longer.. resulting in 2nd round, which is basically a try out or preferred walkon.

Going in the top 10 would be unreal. The way the NBA is currently played sure helps him - Devin Booker has had a pretty good rookie year as pretty much just a shooter also.

The spacing in the NBA will help Buddy and also not having the best defender on him the whole game will help too.. Just hope he goes top 10!
