Coach Kruger Mic'd Up

2 things.
1 Gary alluded to. Cousins move to PG. couple clips of it here. Wood to 2, maybe nothing but maybe something....

2. muni and lattin with 2's in white. Buford in reds with starters.

What has happened that Woodard isn't going to be the point this year? Are some of the new guys coming in going to be good enough to bump him off his spot? I didn't think Cousins was good enough to take over that role...

edit.....
Found the other thread. This is not something I would have thought would happen. If he loses the PG spot is he good enough to be the 2?

Yeah, I haven't watched it yet but very surprising. I never saw Woodard as anything but a PG, as Lon likes the larger wings. Interesting!

could be certain sets, against certain teams.. etc. Interesting for sure

Kruger has always liked Cousins at point. Remember he played him there some as a freshman and at backup quite a bit last year.

I don't remember who has been playing with the reds so far but Kruger usually invests quite a bit of time with the younger players who he thinks that can make a difference later in the season. 3 years ago it was constantly Buddy, Cousins and Hornbeak with the starters almost all of the time in the preseason.

From the guys who attend practice regularly, who are the young guys that are getting a lot of "red" time.

It is interesting to hear his style. He gets on Buddy and Christian but in a very soft way, yet it is clear and appears effective.

If Cousins has been running the point in practice most of the time I don't see how he wont be the starting PG. I don't remember a time last year when I thought that Cousins should be running the point instead of Woodard. Woodward was substantially better at handling the ball all year. Cousins must have really made some major improvements to be beating out Jordan this year. Maybe some of the young guys are just good enough that they think they should be on the floor instead of Jordan and you don't want to lose Cousins ability. Put your 5 best players or at least your 3 best guards on the floor and see what happens... I don't think Jordan had the shooting or defense to be this teams number 2 so I would be afraid his minutes are going to drop through the year as the young guys gain experience.

All that said I am so excited for this year. I love this team and the players on it. It's awesome to see this much talent with kids that all seem to be such good people run by one of the most upstanding coaches around. They are a team you can really be proud of.

I guess with Cousins manning the point that allows us to go big in certain situations. Like this, I suppose:

PG - Cousins
SG - Buddy
SF - Buford
PF - Spangler
C - Lattin/McNeace/Manyang

That's a lot of height on the floor.

Cousins played PG in HS. Lon may be building his confidence and getting him more ball experience that could make him more valuable professionally.

True. Cousins was a combo guard who played the point his senior year at Mt. Vernon. He was also told he would be given a chance to play the point at OU, a promise LK kept when he was a freshman. He was moved to the two and as a back up at the point when turnovers continued to be a problem. That move was applauded by nearly everyone on this board, because he was a lot more effective at the two than at the one.

Having said all of that, the key question to me is has Isaiah eliminated his turnover woes? If the answer is, yes, I can see him as our starter at the point this season. I don't see him holding on to that position if his handles haven't improved.

last year also started with him playing almost 0 point ... walker was the back up PG .. it then shifted all to cousins as the year went on ..

there is no doubt cousins needs more time working on PG skills then Jordan does ..

my money is on Jordan being the point when the ball rolls out vs Memphis ..

He has a gift with that. He really earns those guys' respect with being genuine and showing that he has their best interest at heart.
