Coack Kruger's Amazing Marketing Strategies

Yeah, Capel did it as well back in 2007-2008 when OU conducted the Greek Challenge (whichever house had the most attendants at the basketball games won a nice flat-screen TV among other prizes).

I could be wrong about this, but I'm reasonably sure the Capables were the driving force behind the Greek Challenge. Coach Capel, his staff and the athletic department had to sign off on the idea. But the Greek Challenge, as well as a number of other events on campus to get students more involved, was motivated by a group of dedicated students who were known as the Capables, now known as the Top Daugs.

Maybe a member of that group back then can weigh in to confirm what I've said, or to set me straight. The important difference here is that Coach Kruger is personally reaching out to students. He's not sitting behind his desk waiting for someone to ask or to encourage him to do it.

That's a good point. I was just pointing out that I recall Capel making appearances at the Greek Houses at OU as well.

If it's Kruger's decision then that's great for him. I'm glad that he is being proactive in getting OU basketball back on the right track.

My post was not meant to downplay Capel's attempt to connect with students. I applaud any activity designed to get students more involved, regardless of who initiated it. My intent was to show that LK has a unique ability for a college basketball coach, in that he seems to know which buttons to push to generate interest on a variety of levels.

I'd be shocked if the athletic department wasn't heavily involved in this as well.

Could say "Unique Ability". "Common Sense" would be more appropriate.

Kelvin sat behind me and my friends at the All Greek Convocation back in 96. He tapped one of us on the shoulder, cant remember which its been so long, and told us not to fall asleep back here because he was taking notes!

I am a student at University of Oklahoma and I just got an email that Coach Kruger and Sherri Coale are coming to my fraternity house to meet the students and have a bite to eat.

I think this grassroots marketing strategy is just great and a positive direction in garnering student support. I can't wait till next year's basketball season, in which we should be better and should have better student attendance!

You didn't mention when this was going to happen. Don't forget that we need a full report!
