Cory Joseph to Texas....

Who cares. They are all just going there to be 1 and done. Barnes has already said that winning a NC isn't that important, just getting kids to the NBA. Also, Avery Bradley really was a disappointment and I don't think Joseph is any better than he was out of Findlay.

Geez i can say that Texas has done a little more than OU has lately & next year we might get hammered in Norman as well as Austin..Go Sooners!!!!!!!

He never said winning a NC isn't that important. People will take words and twist them while trying to make it a fact. Don't just repeat what you heard, read for yourself.

Texas' Rick Barnes feels quote on national titles taken out of context

In the March 8th edition of ESPN the Magazine, Texas basketball coach Rick Barnes was quoted as saying he is not "obsessed" with winning a national championship. People have interpreted this to mean that Barnes doesn't really care about winning a national title, and the way that the quote and the article was structured, it seemed that way.

However, according to Barnes, the quote was taken out of context.

"I didn't say that I don't care about winning a national title," Barnes said. "Of course we do."

Barnes said that when he was interviewed by ESPN writer Elena Bergeron for this story, she asked him if he "feels the pressure to win a national championship" this year more so than other years.

"I don't know how anyone can ask that question," Barnes said. "It's every year you want to win it. I told her every year we want to win it.

"I don't know if any coach feels the pressure to win a national championship because, think about it. If you're in this business long enough, how can you ever measure yourself on that? Look at guys like Dean Smith who coached for 42 years and how many [national titles] did he win? Two.

"Then you have Bob Knight - one of the greatest. He won three in 46 years. People don't understand the business. They don't get it."

Though the quote has caused some uproar and many to challenge Barnes' loyalty to Texas' program, it should have done the opposite.

"What's the motto of The University of Texas? Rick is still in the education business. You're developing people," Texas basketball sports information director Scott McConnell said. "Texas builds on the person, the student."

:ez-laugh: Barnes never said that. And I don't mind if he did really. He's right. Winning a NC isn't more important than helping young men reach their NBA goals. IMO, his first priority is the kids.
Regardless, correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't OU had more one and done's than Texas anyway so I don't know why you'd make that comment.

Barnes is building a serious pipeline at Findlay Prep.

Findlay Prep is done after this year, I believe.

Think the coaches and team will move to a "high school" next year (i.e. one they make up).

It's really more of a Grassroots Canada pipeline who happened to have 2 kids end up there. Avery Bradley was going to UT before he decided to go to Findlay. UT has another Grassroots Canada kid locked up for next year in Myck Kabongo.

I believe Tiny and TMG are our first one and dones ever. And one of them won't make the other NBA, and by many accounts it looks like the other was forced out.

I think after all the crap this team has been through recently, my faith in Capel is about as thin as it's ever been. But I'm still willing to give him a chance to turn things around.
However, if he EVER said, "It's more important to me to put guys into the NBA than to win a national championship," I would want his bags packed immediately. This isn't the NBA minor leagues. The number 1 goal is to win every game. Period.

Bradford, McCoy, and Williams going in the top 4 was absolutely fantastic. But it's nothing even CLOSE to winning a National Championship.

Great. But, at least what I can remember, Texas has had 1. Kevin Durant....and he's becoming a top 5 player in the NBA quickly. So a Texas guys is one and done and becomes an instant star and two OU guys go pro after one year and may not even make a roster and someone is cracking on all the Texas recruits being one and done so it doesn't matter. LOL. I'd be shocked if Joseph or Thompson were one and done. Great pickups for Barnes.

He never said that though. It's being taken out of context. I don't like Texas or Barnes but Barnes is gettin a bad rap for that. I actually respect him for waht he said. Here is what he said......
"We would love to win a national championship, but we're not obsessed with it because we're obsessed with these guys trying to live their NBA dream. What's happened to Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, T.J. Ford- I'd give up a national title for all of our guys to be able to live their dream."

Bradford, McCoy, and Williams going in the top 4 was absolutely fantastic. But it's nothing even CLOSE to winning a National Championship.
For who? YOU? Of course, you don't have a stake in it like those guys and their families. If it was your kid you wouldn't say that. Ask Bradford, McCoy and Williams if they'd trade playing pro football for a national championship and they'd say no. Playing in the NFL is their ultimate goal and life changing financially. Ask their parents and they'd say getting drafted.
Ask Blake and Tommy Griffin if they'd trade Blake being in the NBA for a national championship and they'd say no, I'm quite certain. Aren't you?
That's my point.......Barnes comments shows how much he cares for the kids and puts their success over his own ego and personal gain of winning a national championship.
In this day and age...it's kind of refreshing.
