Could Capel look like a hero next year?

Nick - I think the young guys were as good as expected. The problem with this team is the "old" guys.

OU got nothing out of WWIII this year - at least nothing positive
Crocker was typical Crocker - Mr. Rollercoaster
Ryan Wright played good once or twice

These were the guys, IMO, OU needed to have a great years to be successful. I really didn't expect TMG to be this good - even though he has done little of late, I chalk that up to fatigue

Tiny was typical freshman - good and bad. Foul trouble plauged him early, but he really improved, I thought, as the season progressed

Pledge and Fitz both showed flashes.

It was the "veterans" on this team which were the biggest disappointment to me.

None of the young guys really played well at the same time.

Pledger only played good the first few games this year. After that he basically did nothing on offense had some good defense at times, and some bad defense at other times

Fitzgerald showed up a bit early in the year. Mostly disappeared till later in the year and then played well near the end of the year.

Gallon played well till about the start of Big 12 play then disappears till the last 3 or 4 games of Big 12 play. He never really played good defense for the most part.

TMG didn't really do much till conference play then disappeared at the end of conference play.

None of the freshmen really played well at the same time. You never knew who was going to be our best player game in and game out all year. You would have certain things you know would show up. Cade Davis' hustle for example. Gallon was usually a decent rebounder and he would usually get in foul trouble. Tony would play hard when healthy. That's really about it. You never knew who would show up from game to game for the rest of the team.

That's the key right there. He couldn't do it this year, so how is he going to learn to do it next year? By osmosis?

At this point, I don't know if Capel has any answers to get us back to post-season play next year. The 2 new recruits are good players, but they aren't program changers and they will be frosh. It will be a few years before they really have an impact if they are even impact players.

I hope Capel can figure it out, but at this point I don't think it's possible. Especially if TMG and/or Tiny leave.

The way I see it, we are 2-3 years from being good enough for post season play. Hopefully I'm wrong...

I dont think you ever seen Clark and Taylor play they both changed their highschool team from loser to winner both of these kids was the reason that they aau team was competive this summer, willie w,Lamarcus A,Darell A,and a host of other NBA and college playmakers come out of this program so i believe Cam&Taylor could be impact players only if politics of them being(frosh)dont become a issue.

Why would being freshmen be an issue? Capel has never been shy about playing frosh before (see this year).

That said, I think we'll see plenty of Cam and T. J., maybe from the get go. Both have the reputation of being hard workers and taking pride in their defense. One only has to look as far as this year's team to know that good defense will (or should) be a huge factor in who plays and who sits. But, playing good D in high school and at a faster-paced, more physical college level are two different things entirely. I would like nothing better than to see Cam and T. J. beat the odds.
