Could Hield Play PG?

No OFFENSE guys, but if Buddy wants to improve his draft status he needs to work on not getting lost in games. He is not the best scorer at times and that is his bread and butter. Volume shooting and 17 points a game is not the best thing to get excited about. I for one was kinda wanting him to move on. Flame away.

No offense taken and no need to flame.

I definitely didn't want Buddy to move on for two reasons. I'm among those who believe it was best for him to finish his career at OU. I'm also anxious to see if he can make the kind of jump we have seen every season he has been at OU since he was a freshman. A combination of talent and hard work, both of which defines what Buddy has going for him, can do amazing things when a player approaches the task at hand with the kind of dedication and drive he is known for.

The selfish side of me also believes OU will be a better team with Buddy around. We just moved from a top 20 ranking in the preseason to a potential top 10 team, depending on how our newcomers perform this fall. If Manyang and Buford are as good as advertised, and if one or more of our freshmen proves they can contribute at a high level in a backup role, this could be a very special season.

Not a flame, but a question. Generally, one wants somebody to move on when they think their favorite team would be better off without that player - hence the term "addition by subtraction." Can you explain how that would apply to Buddy Hield? I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement, but he's the best player on the team by far...and he's great for team chemistry as well.

And if Franchilla can make the drastci strides as an athlete that he desires, would he not be drafted in the first round?

No. If Fraschilla had Buddy's athleticism, he'd still have no shot at the NBA.

My big question is what kind of leap buddy can make.

His sophomore and junior seasons were really similar ... obviously he had a lot more pressure this year, and we played better teams. But he actually had a more efficient season as a sophomore (by a long shot).

Can he get back to that level of efficiency (or better) at the usage rate from his junior season?

That's my concern. I expect that Buddy will improve, but I can't imagine it will be enough to do much more than simply offset being a year older.

Very kind of you to give him exactly what he was looking for. You're a generous soul.

Sky, I get tired of these kind of posts. People pretending to be fans are getting very old.

I'm with you.

"Flame away" is one of the phrases that, for me, serves as a red flag for a post (and sometimes a poster) best avoided.

Flame away, but I can't think of any rationalization as to why we would be better without Buddy on next year's team.

I agree, anyone thinking we are better without the big 12 POY needs their head checked

Never said we would be better with or without Hield. He seems to be a good kid, but sometimes change is good. That is all. Tell me, Hield play good with his volume shooting, sure he was good at times but he disappeared in games to. Sometimes often. By the way the on these boards are those who do not think outside the box, heck that is most of you.

lol. Losing the Big 12 POY. Why waste your time here?

Backup QB is always better right?

While I agree that hield can get lost at times and shoots too much from outside, it is pretty crazy to say that a team would be better off if the big 12 player of the year left.

In 35 games, Hield scored in double figures 32 times. And in case you missed it, he was named Big 12 Player of the Year and a third-team All-American.

And yet, you found yourself wishing maybe he'd just move on.

And those who don't, like you, think outside the box are wrong?

Have I got that straight?

I fixed Sky's post to put an end to the word posters were using to call others names. I was remiss in failing to do that yesterday.

Sky is absolutely right. It's wishful thinking at best to say you kinda wanted the best player on the team and the conference POY to move on and skip his senior season, and expect anyone on this board to agree with you.

This year's team will definitely be better for the decision Buddy made on Saturday. His value to the team is unquestionable, especially for those who have followed his career and his progress as a player the past three seasons.

I have no doubt whatsoever that he will work hard on any weakness he has this summer and be ready to go this fall. That's the kind of player we have been blessed with the past three seasons. His work ethic, along with that of Isaiah Cousins, will set the example for the younger players. You can't put a value on inspiring others to improve. But, there is no doubt that OU's basketball team was the winner when Buddy announced his return.
