Crowd issues - OSU and OU

Dude - come on... they had the Internets in 2001-06. :) They even had Playstation 2, XBOX, etc.

I think this is the more likely scenario. You had 3 full years worth of OSU students who didn't get to ever see an NCAA-tournament calibur team.

I felt like it would take Ford a few years to win the students back, but goodness I thought they might be back in force this year. We've had two straight NCAA tournament teams and Ford is 38-3 inside GIA.

So I don't know what the deal is.

Well I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Stanford game was different... it was during Christmas break and thus all of the student seats were sold to the general public.

That sort of drives home my point, actually... the one game this year where the student tickets were sold to the public was the best attended game of the year.

yeah, I think those games wee 10 bucks a ticket.

I'm stunned they're still charging a minimum $250/seat donation to sit in the lower bowl.

Yep. They sure do. I had two tickets on the top row of the lower level the last two years that were about even with the free throw line (on the non-cushioned seat side). They charged $500 per ticket plus $250 donation fee per ticket.

I finally dropped them this year in favor of buying $10 seats and moving down to seats in the general area of where I used to sit anyway. If I do that for every game, I'll save like a $1000 and still have close to the same quality seats.

If they waived that donation fee, I would've went ahead and paid the extra $500 to make sure those seats were reserved. But enough was enough for me when I could basically still sit in the lower level for so much cheaper.

I have friends who have had season tickets for 20 years and go to at most 3 games a year. Good for me when I can get to OK at least. So yes, the attendance figures count all sold like those.

Somebody at the game give me an HONEST estimate of how many people were at the OU-TT game Tuesday night. Unless the upper portion of the entire upper bowl was full (not likely), it looked like 1,500 max on TV.

It was about 6,000 I'd say. It was definitely over half full.

Agreed. It was actually a better crowd than I was expecting, and probably deserved to be honest.

They apparently sold a lot of those "groupon" deals that filled up about 75 percent of the four or so sections in the NW upper corner. A lot of those people moved down too after the tipoff.

FWIW, if OU was 13-4 going into that game like OSU was last night instead of 8-9 and in the NCAA hunt like the Cowboys are, I think there would have been 8K butts in the seats.

OSU probably would have had a thousand or so more people if it wasn't for the weather. I think a lot of fans from Tulsa or OKC decided they didn't want to drive back at 11 p.m. with the weather planning on being like it was. I'm expecting 8,500-9,000 here on out. With a few more for Texas and OU games.

Most reasons have been discussed but here's my opinion:

I really can't believe the lack of students at the OU games. I went to school there in the mid 90's and we always went to the games. Yes, we had video games, internet, etc. We were students at OU though and our team was playing. We did what students do....drink beer before, bring pocket liquor and watch the Sooners. It's not like bball games last that long, usually 2 hours. The student section was always packed up to the top for most conference games.
I've always believed the non conference cupcakes should be played at the fieldhouse. It could hold the amount of people that actually go to those games. Make the tickets general admission. I split season Thunder tickets with some friends but that does not stop me from going to OU games. I don't go to every game because they are all on TV. This has really hurt attendance imo. I don't rush down to Norman to watch the Sooners when I can get off work, head to the house, and watch the Sooners on the couch. Add in an average/below average Sooners team and there's no way I'm rushing down there. I still make some of the big conference games and the big nonconference game but I'll watch all of the others on TV. Oh yeah, my parents have season tickets and they drive a hour and 15 mins. to all of the games that they can make. I use the other ones or give them to someone at work. Lol. Sweet deal. :)

Even with the crappy product on the floor, students get their tickets free if they go to all the games. I would have been all over that if I was still in school.
