Portland Mayor makes the following statement:

"Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Thursday evening condemned the actions of rioters who attempted to set fire to a police precinct and blocked the exits while officers were inside.

“When you commit arson with an accelerant in an attempt to burn down a building that is occupied by people who you have intentionally trapped inside, you are not demonstrating, you are attempting to commit murder," Wheeler said in a news conference with Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell.

"Don’t think for a moment that you are if you are participating in this activity, you are not being a prop for the reelection campaign of Donald Trump — because you absolutely are," he said. "You are creating the B-roll film that will be used in ads nationally to help Donald Trump during this campaign. If you don’t want to be part of that, then don’t show up.”

And they are labeled as protestors!

And whether it helps a political candidate or not is not relevant to the act described above.

Just words until he actually allows the people trying to do that to be arrested. Unbelievable that we've come to this. Absolutely unbelievable.

I don't know the exact timeline in minutes, but while Floyd was in the police vehicle, he was claiming he couldn't breathe. I think the effects of fentanyl and other substances in his system certainly helped exacerbate his panic issues. It's still no excuse to have a knee on the guy's neck and the main culprit should be punished.

However, because of the highly emotional circumstances of the case, the officers were likely over-charged. Having to prove that the officers "intended" to kill the guy (2nd degree murder) looks to be too high of a bar in this case. I think the DA could likely get a conviction of assault and maybe involuntary manslaughter, but anything more than that will be difficult. I'm no lawyer, but as more and more information is disclosed (tox report, body cams, etc.), it appears that ensuring a conviction will require a lowering/lessening of charges.

Yup, can't excuse leaving your knee on somebody's neck that doesn't have a pulse for 2 minutes, but as I said previously...the guy that did the second autopsy was way out of line with his public comments.

It's definitely not a "shoot for the moon, land amongst the stars" scenario. They're going to out kick their coverage and the officers will walk. That will be bad for the country.

Really bad, I'm afraid.

Video provided by LA Times about the goings on in Chicago where 100 arrests, 13 police officers hurt and dozens of stores looted such as Starbucks, Best Buy, Georgio Armani, etc. It's obvious, though, how this will help effect positive change for blacks across the country.

He's picks the most opportunistic, self-serving Senator in the chamber solely because she's a woman of color. Good grief, Charlie Brown. That's going to cost him a ****-ton of votes. That woman is despised.

If I was picking to win independent voters who are tired of Trump and extreme positions on both sides, which I think is the key to the election..... I would have chosen Joe Manchin from West Virginia. He's been a Democratic governor and senator in a red state. He's cool, calm, collected. He goes out of his way to be a nice guy.

He had a 77% approval rating as a Governor, and won his second election with nearly 70% of the vote. He is not controversial in any way. He is right down the middle. He is a centrist to his core. He's not going to gaffe, provoke, cause excessive controversy, etc. In terms of experience, he has been a governor of a state, and a US Senator. He's the ranking member on the Senate energy and natural resource committee, he's on the appropriations committee, he's on the armed services committee, and he's on the veterans affairs committee.

It's just really hard to not like the guy.... From a political standpoint, he seems like the antidote to hyper-partisan politics.

He is also 72. I think Biden needs somebody younger, but he still needed somebody qualified.

Kamala Harris is Jamaican and Indian yet she’s referred to as African American. What am I missing here?

Because it helps the liberal narrative like what was done when Obama was president. To democrats it is as if his mother never existed. I do not understand how feelings or liking or opinions alters the chromosomal make up of people, but I gather I missed that particular biology class.

I agree, but to be fair, Susan Rice or Stacey Abrams would have been just as bad. He pigeon-holed himself when he stated his selection would be a woman of color. I can think of several candidates he could've chosen from battleground states (Kasich, Beto, Tammy Baldwin)....who likely would've helped him....although I can't stand any of those listed above.

Good points on Abrams and Beto.

Abrams is a clown. The fact that her name even comes up in this discussion just makes me smh.

Beto has an almost cult-like following. Agree that getting somebody like him would have been bad for the GOP. I hate his policy, but he comes off to his base as a likeable guy that can relate. I think he's pretty slimy though.

We'll see how it goes. I still think this election is the Dems to lose, but these are the kind of things that can swing things back the other way. The GOP needs to run message after message and ad after ad about what Harris has done and her stance on some controversial topics.

QAnon supporter and right-wing candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene won her election in Georgia last night.
