Danny Manning named head coach at TU

Scott Sutton would have been an awful pick. What does he bring to the table that Woj didn't? That Phillips didn't? Nothing. He is boring. Dull. And from what I've seen, average in every sense of the word.

I have no idea if Manning will work out or not. I don't know. But he sold TU on something. Time will tell.

He brings a name - Nothing else. Tulsa will be right back where they are right now in 4 or 5 years. At least Evans and Sutton have shown they know how to organize a winning program - you have NOTHING with Manning. And you want to talk about BORING - that is Manning's middle name, lol

Unless Manning is mediocre coach, he won't be there in 3 or 4 years. If successful, he's gone just as soon as he can and if he's terrible, he'll be gone in a heartbeat.

I also worry about how he'll do without the KU name. It's easy to recruit to KU, and it's easy to coach up kids that are already super talented. What happens when the big men he is coaching up aren't as skilled as the top 3 big men at KU at any given time?

Why is it easy to recruit to KU? I get that it is easier to get a top 100 kid at KU over OU but KU gets in head to head battles with Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina etc. Is it really any easier than OU battling with OSU, KSU and Arkansas? I think Manning has to realize he is no longer recruiting the top 50 players in the nation and must learn to recruit good kids that are not on everyone's list. In other words don't be a dumb@$$ like Capel and refuse to even consider local kids that are 3 star recruits.

I also don't necessarily think it is easy to coach kids that are super talented. Super talented kids sometimes have super huge egos and think they don't need coaching. I think Manning will have an easier time coaching because the kids have to look at what he has done and recognize it is pretty impressive and he might actually know something. He will still have to deal with some egos but that is just part of the job.
