At the end of the day, I think OU will always be under-resourced compared to rivals, especially in the SEC but I think you & other posters are underestimating the gap re basketball and most importantly how greater resources would create an environment where a desirable coach would want to stay at OU for the long-term.
In football (the only true comparison to MBB because of the rev sport status IMO), OU is still allegedly a top 15-20 NIL location on the low end. It’s not A&M or UT or Ohio State but it’s competitive to the rest of the SEC and definitely nationally versus the BIG/Big 12/ACC.
I’ve not read as much about baseball NIL and would concede that OU is still under-resourced (especially relative to the rest of the SEC) but from my basic understanding it sounds like the level of total NIL deployment is much more consistent outside of a few heavy spenders like A&M, UT, LSU, Tenn etc and contracts for elite guys are less overall (the roster is bigger in baseball no doubt, which definitely impacts). Would be interested to read/learn more if others have resources.
Johnson and Venables are also ultimately better coaches than Moser.
Re gymnastics & softball, I don’t think true non revenue sports are a legitimate comparison just given the overall level of NIL deployed to those type of sports by boosters tied to the school. Coaching matters so much more and fortunately OU has that with Gasso and Kindler.
